Nasty little rumors

I have been reading some reviews and new released related to Neverwinter the last few days. They do say it is not going to be an MMO but it will be all online. The way these new posts make it sound is that there will be absolutely no offline/single player content at all.

What is the level of truth to this? If this is true that means more than half of our soldiers are going to lose the ability to play. This put a huge dent in the sales of some games the last few years like Civilization 5 that require you to register on steam AND have to be online to play even in single player.

I live in an area with crappy internet. Radio/wireless is my only option so this means online games are not a very reasonable option out here as even on a good day my net drops 2-3 times a day. During a major weather front such as this week's heat wave I can lose internet for hours on end.

Plus I spend a third of the year on the road traveling. Neverwinter Nights and Civilization 4 have been great games I can play on the laptop while going down the highway without internet. I am hoping to include Neverwinter 2011 in that portable arsenal.

However the news I am reading tells me that NW2011 is taking the idiot road and going to make everything purely online. While they claim it is not going to be an MMO they say people will be able to customize their own world and the like but all has to be online. Sounds to me like NWN1+Second life+ instance based system. So it WILL be an MMO in the second life format. You rent/run your own little city of neverwinter but still have to run everything off their server.

If this is done for security purposes to combat piracy then fine. I do not mind having to log on once a week or once a month or hell once every 2-3 days to verify my copy. When I am going down the road and it asks to verify at launch then I can just stop at wendy's for lunch and verify my copy of the game then. But if I am in the middle of a quest series or a complicated fight and my internet hiccups for 15 seconds when I am at home and I lose all progress and get kicked completely out of the game...

I already preordered this game paid in advance. If it turns out to be another Civ5 where you have to have a constant internet connection to play then I am going to cancel my subscription and call the NWN series another dead goat.

Ahh HAMSTER... posted this int he wrong area too. Here come the flames.

Well they may include some offline capabilities but i seriously doubt it. I would cancel your buy. They say it is a co-op game- so the internet will be needed.

1 and 2 were co-op as far as I am concerned. Thus the hirlings and OPTION to play the main campaigns online. This sounds to me more like a policing effort than a game progression choice. Wanting to be able to stare over your shoulder all the time and monitor everything you do in the game. I cannot help but imagine this is also going to lead to not being able to get the character names you want since their forced online thing is likely going to eliminate the local vault.
