Unable to authenticate

"unable to authenticate, lost connection to account server", this is the message I've been getting since yesterday preventing me from playing.
What's up with the servers lately; Eternal loops when changing maps and multiple crashes are now commonplace.
When will this state of affairs end?

Please try the following method:
• On the launcher, click on "Options"
• Uncheck the box "On-demand patching"
• Check the box "Force verify"
• Save
