Game won't start

After patching I tried to log in, I got to the character select screen and went to change characters with the down arrow key. It went down one character and froze. Up and down arrows did nothing, neither did clicking anywhere.
The game screen would not minimize so that I could use the task manager to close the program, I had to power down completely.
Now, it doesn't even get to the character select screen, after the Cryptic loading screen and then the Neverwinter splash screen it goes to all black with just the minimize/window icons in the top right corner, which don't work.
btw, I already did the force verify in launcher options, no help
I deleted the gameprefs file according to the support faq and now it freezes on the Neverwinter splash screen. At least now task manager can work to close it.

I got in!
I left the splash screen up while I went for a smoke and it finally adjusted my resolution to default and I was able to get in.
Playing on a laptop with high res screen makes for teeny tiny text so I have to lower the resolution to be able to read the tooltips and even the chat.

Same problem here. I can't pass splash screen. It happened with modul before but now i can't pass splash screen.
