My main toon is a IL 65k barbarian that started out as a GWF years ago. I just don't know if I am not playing it right or perhaps I didn't transition it from a GWF to a barbarian properly. I don't have a lot of issues with the campaigns. However, I (used to) like running queues. Whatever other DPS class I am paired with, they usually blow me away with the total damage at a much lower IL (I noticed I am scaled down considerably everytime I run one). Especially rogues, but also rangers & warlocks seem very OP by comparison. I am usually very similar to other barbarians unless they bought that metallic dragonborn.
I usually run with relentless slash to give me at least something of an AOE, not that it makes much difference, by the time I get to a mob, the ranged boys have usually already done most the damage. It is pretty weak anyway until I switch on battlerage which makes it half decent, but that takes time and by then mobs r dead and I activated my battlerage for no reason. My other at will is the running slam to at least try to get to enemies before the ranged guys have got them but that means I can't use brash strike which is I guess better against bosses.
O focused on power & crits .. meaning I have very little defence, I stand no change against enemies in dungeons without a tank, should I adjust that?

1. Barbarian has been weaker and Rogue has been stronger.
2. Rogue usually is faster (to the scene) and has good AOE.
3. In scaled content, the stat percentage matters. In scale content, it is common to have low IL but with good stat percentage because it is easier to tune that when IL is low. People may even take off equipment/enchantment to lower their IL to have that 'benefit' to do scale content.
4. The paingiver chart numbers are based on how much HP you took from the enemies and not how hard you hit. You could hit a lot but only takes 1 HP from the enemy when you kill it. So, if the range players already took a lot of HP from the enemies, there is not much left for you. There is not much you can do about except get to the scene faster.
i.e. if the enemy has 1000 HP and the range took 700 HP before you arrive, you probably will get 200 HP after all. In the end of the day, the range get 800 and you get 200.
5. My Barbarian usually does (not necessary it is considered the best practice) 3 encounter strikes first (that would give me enough for battlerage), Battlerage, At will, Battlerage spend. 3 encounter strikes and/or daily, Battlerage, at will, ......
6. Not being the best DPS has its advantage ... not getting aggro as much. These days, it seems the boss chases the wizard more (if there is no tank).
7. My Barbarian does not have super defense, 41%. His main defense is sprint at the right time to 'dodge'.
From another point of view, I would not be concerned about pain-giver chart in a race type situation. It is pointless - who gets there first, gets the points. On that note, barb has double jump and fighter has bull rush with marathon runner. Generally, your aim is to be faster, not to hit harder.
