Return to Neverwinter

My partner just told me about this amazing looking D&D game they found on steam and wanted me to try. Much to my surprise it was Neverwinter and I figured it might be time to come back and try the game again, I think last I played was....2016? maybe a bit earlier? Has much changed? Is it still possible to get into or is it kinda dead at this point, any advice or opinion would be appreciated.

Since you did not like it in 2016, most likely you won't like it in 2022/2023.

The systems have changed a lot since 2016. Class powers are mostly unchanged, but feats and boons are quite different than they were 6 years ago. The level cap is not 70, or 80, or 85, but instead 20 like traditional tabletop D&D. Additionally, the leveling experience has been streamlined and the number of leveling story arcs has been reduced. There's also no more XP; instead leveling is done using a milestone system as is standard in most published 5E campaigns where you just level roughly every 2 - 3 quests. Overall, as someone whose been playing off and on since 2013, I think many of the changes the current dev team have been making are for the better.

I mean, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. The economy is still F@#$ed and many of the items in the Zen store are more expensive than they should be, but even that has improved somewhat, relative to what it was like in 2016 at least.

I say give it a try. If you still have access to your old account then you should still be able to log in and access your old character(s) and their stuff. You can even use the refer-a-friend system to get some bonus goodies for both you and your partner just by sending them a referral link.

It's free to play so if you and partner don't end up liking it, you've wasted nothing but time.

Its free, try it out. It has changed A LOT since 2016 but it is still pretty much one of the best free-to-play MMOs I have tried. The graphics are great the group content can be challenging and interesting and there is always plenty to be doing in game!

Join an active Alliance too, this makes the game like 100000000x better than the solo experience.

I have been here some time and still enjoy NW as a casual gaming experience.

If you're going to start new anyway, you have the option to create a new account and refer your old account or your partners for some bonus goodies.

They ripped half the locations out, dumbed-down the build/feat system so it's cookie-cutter and less unique per person and now what used to take you weeks to do to get through a campaign takes a day or whatever. You may or may not like it now.
Apparently pointing-out the bleeding obvious is a 'personal attack'.
