I had a preservation ward (bound), and unbounded it to stack with commons or sell. But it turned out to be unbound, a different class than bound and common, and I couldn't put it in a cell with the others. So I unbounded another preservation ward (bound), to form a single stack of preservation ward (unbound), but, to my surprise, each one occupies a different square. They cannot be put on the same inventory space. Worse still, if I try to refine an artifact, for example, it doesn't allow me to put the two wards (unbound) together, that is, I can only use one at a time, and to ensure the success of the refinement, I need to stack 10 or 20 per cell. So they are practically useless. Don´t ever unbound preservation wards! I don´t know why this option it´s available, if the result is so inconvenient.

There are 3 classes: unbound, bound to account, bound to character. They do not stack together. Almost nobody complained about this case.
Even within the same class such as "bound to account". There are at least 4 different sub-class with the same description. They also do not stack together. This is most people complaint about for years.
So, basically, it is just another subclass within "unbound".
I doubt they will do anything about it soon.
