It's been a few years now and I've noticed after playing almost all the dps classes that Barbarians have been weaker than the other classes. I've observed that barbarians even at similar skill level to me in terms of knowing rotation and having a good build are doing less damage in content such as trials and dungeons, specifically Vault of Stars and Tower of the mad mage. Keep in mind this is all constructive criticism so take it with grain of salt.
This post can be used by the Devs to understand where the barbarian class can improve.ContextBarbarian prior to Mod 16 had more damage in AoE and slightly higher damage in single target. Barbarian has an amazing at-will but no other options for single target. The main problem with Barbarian is the encounter damage being too low, for example Frenzy and Indominable battle Strike being way too low damage for its cast time of 1.1 seconds. Other issues could be hitting for absolutely no damage due to glitches with daily in pvp and rarely in pve where casting abilities quickly after a daily will hit for 0s.
Stamina fix/suggestionAnother issue with barbarian making it a weaker class in content like pvp/dragon hunts/intense trials or boss fights is the extremely low stamina recharge speed keeping the barbarian out of stamina for a good remainder of the fights. My suggestion here is to increase the stamina recharge speed so it is balanced with the other classes availability with dodges.
Ability SuggestionsWith the barbarian there a lots of fun encounters/at-wills/dailies but half of them are not very good at all. With mostly low magnitude.
Here's a list of the abilities in which they can be improved and some ways they can be improved:
Sure strike
-This was a very popular at-will back before mod 16 and with mod 16 the damage output of it was decreased greatly, making it unusable. In my opinion it should be able to compete with brash strike. The general improvement for this ability would just to increase the magnitude, nothing else is needed for this.
Indomitable Battle Strike
-This ability was very popular for its high ST and AoE. Was used in pve for AoE and hit extremely hard in single target. Now it's very weak and has no AoE, even the . A solution is to just increase magnitude and add AoE.
Bounding slam
-This ability used to be "Threatening rush" Which had 3 charges, added combat advantage mark, and was relatively fast. My solution is to re-add those features and optionally keep same animation.
Battle fury
-This ability is a good buff with the problem of recharge speed. Prior to Mod 16 was a highly used encounter power mainly in pvp and sometimes in pve. Simple solution is to decrease recharge time.
Hidden daggers
-This ability used to have 3 charges and was great as a debuff and AoE ability. Solution is to re-add the 3 charges it used to have as this made it unique and very good.
On the topic of abilities there was an ability called "shield slam" which is now on fighter which was a favorite to many players as it was a great AoE ability and was amazing in PvP. I suggest to Re-add this ability to barbarian as it was lots of fun to use and was amazing. Coming from multiple "OG" barbarian players this was a favorite.
BugsThere is a bug where when using dailies, specifically "savage advance" your other abilities will hit for 0s. The reason is complicated and I don't know why this happens but when you use a daily against an enemy in PvP who's using flash freeze, your other abilities will hit for 0s. To add on to the bug this bug will happen when you're casting you skills too fast which none of the other classes have this issue. I will provide an example here:
