As most of you know by now, I do some testing here with Linux OS using a compatibility layer for Windows. Note: Cryptic Studios doesn't support Linux OS and they recommend Windows OS. Although I have read about some users incapable of running this game in their current Windows OS. I can tell you it runs smoothly under Linux OS. If you don't want to replace your Windows OS, you can run Linux from a USB thumb stick and some installs are small enough to run from a CD. If you want to install a version
game ready, I suggest you try Sparky Linux GameOver Edition. Everything seems to be working here. Unless you see a mess of players crying in these forums about the game not working, it probably is a local issue and not as global as one might think.
About the changes made to the game itself...It is very obvious to me, they item lock players out of content to create a paywall for end game content. This was a subject brought to my attention by user
@blargskull about a week ago. Tonight I was doing my Linux tests and decided to check this out. Two of the characters on my account for years cannot access content unless they played it prior to these changes.
Take for example my character Reverend Mr. Black...
Item level has him locked out of places such as Acquisitions Incorporated... really? This was able to be started on the old system at Level 15 out of 80. Now it is suppose to be "too hard for his gear" at item level 18,796?
Then why isn't this character Melech dying in the mission at item level 17,880? Seems like a cake walk to me.
As you can see he is 3/8 done in there and I checked to see if I was experiencing a new "hard mode" and no, instead I was mopping the floor in there.
As for Rev. Black and all the rest my test subjects, Item Level appears to be an obvious pay up or grind for years for free. It is a good thing, I am only here testing WINE for Linux OS, or I might be upset by this ridiculous system. But it is only a silly game and they are not meant to be sensible. Working 100% on WINE version 7.0
