Scaling after choosing Paragon path

So I was in Neverdeath Graveyard doing the quests. I was doing quite well with the mobs on my Barbarian. With double XP weekend, I hit level 30 while still in Neverdeath. I chose to go the tank route with Paragon. And suddenly, it was taking me forever to take down the mobs. The very same mobs I was doing quite well with, now was taking me forever to kill. I just assumed that I made a really bad choice, but was confused why choosing one Paragon path would so adversely effect the very mobs I had been killing the whole zone. Eventually, I logged out so I could watch the Superbowl.
Coming back after the Superbowl, to my surprise, I was killing mobs even better than I had been the whole zone.
This left me confused trying to figure out what had made such a difference. And then I remembered the talk about your character is always scaling to the content you are in. Obviously something is wrong that your experience within a zone could be so significantly effected while just putting on new gear or choosing paragon paths, and logging out and coming back in to the zone fixes it.
