It can take up to 8 actions (key presses, mouse clicks) to use the signpost (VIP only). As a result, although it is nice to have, it is often quicker merely to run to the nearest exit (a maximum of 4 actions if we exclude running to get there - press F, indicate destination on map, sub destination if required, OK)
It has long been a principle of programming that the number of modes be reduced as far as possible. The game already has the terrible clumsy and annoying dual mouse mode (use ALT to activate perfectly accessible areas of the screen) which is presumably a legacy of console development. But 8 actions to indicate a destination? This is plain bad programming. It takes 4 (ALT, click on icon, click on menu, press F) even to get a map!
Why not adopt the very simple action of a dedicated key (some modifier + M for example)? This is logical and intuitive, and takes the place of running to an exit. The program already knows if the user has access to the signpost, so there is no difficulty in enabling such a key press when appropriate.
