Can you have more than one companion join you in combat during a fight? Do you have slots like 3-4 companion slots? Can they all fight beside you at once? Also I think a Warlock can cast a companion, does that count against one of your companion slots or is it an extra companion counted in a spell slot? Please help knowing if I can choose others to fight beside me and how many will determine my character build. Thanks for the help in advance.

You can only have one campion fight with you at a time, but have multiple equipped for their stat bonuses. The warlock can summon a ghost looking dude, he fights for you and does not count as a companion, nor does he take up a slot

Since I know nothing about pets could you toss me down some of you recommendations? They can just be max level or maybe a few dps, casters, and varied guys for me to level up with. I promise to pay it forward. When I level up my characters will be fully at your disposal for anything you care to do. If you want to do a 24 hour camp I can do that. Whatever. Just for your expert advise on the pets. Thanks for your consideration.
If you are new in the game and relatively broke, the Zhentarim Warlock is your companion. She is a blue rank that sells in the AH for 12K to 14K AD in the Auction House. She has a tiny cool down and every 10 seconds or so, she blows stuff up. Augments will not fight and they cannot distract enemies. I stick with companions for that reason alone. I have fallen in battle and in that final 10 seconds, the companion will sometimes kill the enemy that killed you.
The better companions will have small cool downs between attacks. The companions are still "broken" since mod 16, but we have to work with what they give us.
