Seriously, it's HAMSTER.

1. First off, a single instance? It's bad enough we have to deal with the exorbitant number of "Heroic" (more like Annoying) Encounters popping up all over the map, we have to try and avoid if we're just trying to get x2 currency or Legacy Campaigns done, we're stuck doing it on a single map? During x2 currency or Legacy Campaign week, it's virtually impossible to get anything done, as every one is trying to do it.

2. Cursed Cairns is a joke. We have a 1 in 3 chance of popping that stupid Giant Skeleton and if we don't get it, we don't complete the Quest. Add in having to deal with other HAMSTER players and griefers, it a pain to complete. I've seen people camp at the Cairns, just waiting for a Skeleton to pop up by another player, then one shot it, before running off, leaving the person who triggered it SOL.

I know it's unfathomable to believe, but there IS a toxic percentage in the community and being a HAMSTER, by killstealing and griefing, is pretty HAMSTER. If you don't get at least one hit on that Skeleton, you don't get credit for it and more often than not, there's at least one HAMSTER in Icewind Pass. Either add skeletons on the map that count, have them pop up every time or make them count if you're in the vicinity.

3. Same goes with While They Are Young. There are times when people group up and kill off the Remorhaz before you can even react. If you don't hit at least one, it doesn't count and you have to start over.

4. Lost on the Pass is just as bad. People will wait until you're in battle trying to get the Caravan Survivor, then activate it, while you're in combat. If you're lucky, you're close enough to get credit for it, but a lot of times you're not, so you just wasted that time.

Dwarven Valley is even worse.....

1. Strung up, people just wait for you to summon the Hungry Troll and then one shot it, making you start over. There's no reason to do this, except to grief, but it's done constantly. Again, if you don't land a hit, you don't get credit.

2. Attonement, sometimes you don't even have time to even get the idol, 'cos the respawn time on trolls is like 10 seconds.

3. Stay Buried, again you have to deal with griefers one-shotting the wights and then running off, or camping on the graves. Sometimes, they just kill the Deathlock Wight and leave everything else and the respawn time for those mobs is FIVE MINUTES. Some players WAIT for you to engage, then hit the Deathlock Wight immediately, so if you didn't land at least one hit, again, it doesn't count for you. The ONLY other wights that count are for the 10+ Annoying Encounter, Invasion. The 3+ Encounter, Save the Merchant, they don't count. STUPID.

4. People stand directly on the Hammerstone Goods, so you can't activate it. They'll let you clear out the mobs, but prevent you from activating the goods. Again, there's no purpose for this other than griefing, as you can't activate the goods, if directly on top of it.

Icewind Dale needs more instances, plain and simple. It shouldn't take a player an hour and a half to complete.....

Only issue may be if they reduce the number of people allowed per instance, which would be the only in-game way to do it, then it will be impossible for people that are not higher end to be able to complete the BHEs. And that griefing was happening even when it was a brand new mod, when there were 40 instances or more. So not a lot has been done about it in the intervening years.

There are multiple instances of both IWP and DV. I've never seen more than 2 but it's hard to check.

It's because of the open world PVP aspect that they disable being able to shift between instances, but they are there. The restriction should be removed, at any rate.

I've never seen anyone so upset about IWD/DV. I've never had a problem with either. As far as the quest leeching goes... that happens sometimes, but it's not the norm in my experience.

Perhaps that would be a good benefit for VIP: the ability to create a personal instance.

When I was in Icewind dale this afternoon, it was so empty that I more or less did not see anyone when I did the simple quests. On the other hand, I usually don't do this kind of quest when there are other players around.

There were not enough people to make more instance.

Hey there @methuselas long time no see. I know you have been around a long time, so this message is not just pointed at you, but also the new players.

    Toxic Players
If you are in Icewind Dale, there are limited instances once in a while, but during the Sybella Quests (sending every jerk and his brother there) the place is packed. I try to avoid it, until the event dies down. A point of fact, I run most of my character one or more weeks behind on those areas. This alone will do away with the "toxic avengers" and a great deal of what you are talking about here.

    Single Instance
Happens sometime, but due to the maps all being PvP, we cannot easily move from instance to instance in the blink of an eye. I tried, you can be at the gate, someone has to call the Remorhaz and know their map number. Then after they invite you -assuming you are in the same faction- you then run through the gate and back just to find a dead Remorhaz. Ever since they got the other Epic Heroics working for this, I no longer bother. Yesterday, I did the Barbarian Raiders when it dropped. BHE shouldn't be a very long wait anymore. Three demonic encounters completes Sybella's Heroics quest.

    Cursed Cairns is a joke.
Sybella's Adventures quest? For my 5 quests, I did Biggrin, 3 Dwarven, and Needless Distractions. I haven't done Cursed Cairns in a long time. I really don't care much for the Icewind Pass quests much. I haven't run into the vast amount of toxic players, but as I stated, wait until next Monday and the place is dead unless she does a back to back.

BTW I still have a copy of your post, the one you wrote back in 2015, about the NW economy. I think they pulled it or it got sent to robot Hell, but I saved that masterpiece on Facebook. <3

    I feel your pain OP.

I used to hate the killstealing there myself, way back when I was Item Level 1600 [under the old system] and those Dwarfs hit HARD. No one would party up, no one would help/aid each other. And generally it was a real slog to get that campaign finished.

My only suggestion would be to run it with Guildmates or friends, if you can.

But yeah, I think it needs a work over.

For Sybella Quests, IMO, it is not efficient to do them right the way when it is available. I don't even start it unless there are 2 to 3 Sybella Quests in the same area.

For the 5 quests in Icewind Dale, I usually will do 4 Biggrin (for the weekly AD) and when I passed by and there is a demonic HE, I do that too. If there is a Remorhaz HE pop up, I do that too. Needless Distractions would be done without actually doing it. It may take 4 to 5 weeks (there are other regions with multiple Sybella Quests to cover in those weeks) but I don't need to wait for anything to pop. I am not doing them in "rush hour" either.

Same thing applies to all regions of Sybella Quests.

Yep. Save them up until you have most/all for an area. With 9 characters it also helps. I will always have something to do for Sybella.

While I do feel that the OP is kinda too judgemental and only had bad luck, trying to kill the Deathlock Wights is surely one of those quests to avoid. It falls to the category "kill overpopulated monsters" in a map that has 0 of those monsters present and the average half-life of the respective freshly spawned mob is counted in milliseconds...
But that is caused by the double event. Other times you do not meet many players in IWD. (and the map can have even 6 Deathlock Wights present at the same time!)

It reminded me the Stronghold quest of killing 20 beast - but when there is a certain HE up, the designed area can have only 4 or 5 of those beasts present.

    Just try later.

    Icewind Pass:
    1. Need a lot of people to get extra instance. Well, Icewind pass is not that busy.
    2. I don't do Ten Town. Hence, easy to avoid Cursed Cairns.
    3. They pop up fast. Is it really a big deal to start again?
    4. Make sure you are "lucky". Fight next to the Survivor. Serve 3 purposes. (a) you become "lucky". (b) harder for others to 'F' it. (c) he will be dragged into combat.

    DV.
    1. You mean they don't 'f' it and wait for you to do so? I don't think so. They want to 'f' it but you 'f' it first. Since they one shot it, how much delay for you to 'f' it again?
    2. This one is a bit tricky. Well, fight next to the idol.
    3. Always kill the Deathlock Wight first. There are many of them if you know where they are.
    4. You are in the opposite end of Caravan Survivor and Idol. Why do you just stay away and wait for the mob to hit him so that he has to clear the mob? And, there is way to activate it even when one is on it.
