What do you buy gold bars for?

Are they used in crafting or something? I haven't seen anything that requires them. They cost exactly 1 gold so I'm guessing it's a way to store money maybe if your really rich?

    To sell that in AH to get AD.
    You cannot sell gold in AH.
    You can sell gold bar in AH.
    People buys gold bar to get gold.

    I've also crafted stuff for people and they mailed me gold bars back to cover the cost. It is the only way to exchange gold between players without the face to face trade UI.
