Sudden Frame Rate Issue, usually after changing characters

Starting two days ago, I've had an issue where I log in and everything is fine. I change characters, and at some point my game slows down like it is lagging, but it isn't lag. There is no rubber-banding or sudden "catch-up." It's more like dropped frames, where I'm not refreshing constantly (I'm not used to frame-rate issues, so I'm not sure if that's exactly what this is). The game and my character are still doing everything on time, but I am seeing only some of it, sort of stuttering.

Is anyone else seeing this? Anything I can do to prevent it from happening? The game is basically unplayable when it happens. I can exit and restart the game and it goes away, but it's brutal just switching characters to invoke and so on.

Any help appreciated!

@alphastream They recently patched some issues regarding lag/framerates. You can try to force patch to make sure you get these fixes.

Are you getting issues in full instances, ie PE? Do you recall some of the exact situation when the issues appear?

Additionally you can get frame rates drop when you have multiple in game windows opened, players in the vicinity using powers that affect allies, etc.

When you get these game issues, you can check system tasks to see if your computer started updates or virus scan.. etc. Or other people in the household sharing the internet.

Not sure if you optimized your graphics settings yet. Medium to low settings on the slide bars usually help run the game smoother.

Thanks for the comments! I have not been able to figure out why it starts. It for sure starts when I switch from one character to another. I thought it might be specific to switching to Avernus, but it happened with switching to a character in PE and also when I switched to a character in totally-not-busy Vellosk.

Once the issue starts, it is perpetual. It won't matter where the character is, or if I change characters again or move to different instances. The only solution once it starts is to exit the game and start it back up.

Similarly, I've played a single character for hours without the issue coming up. Something about switching characters seems to be the problem. I just switched characters three times, and on the third I went from River District to PE, visited my stronghold, did a quest there, did the Portal quest, back to PE, back to RD, and in RD did several HEs and a quest. Then I switched characters and it happened.

There is nothing about other software that has changed. It happens regardless of whether I have other programs running or not. I've been playing for about 2 years on this PC without issue, and no recent changes to the PC.

I think it was Thursday evening, I played for several hours on various characters doing Uprising content and running Dread Ring lairs. There was no issue with lag during this time. Switched to another character and noticed the game was lagging even on the loading screen, notably it took 10 seconds or more for the loading screen to go away despite the sounds of PE being audible. I went to Avernus and started running quests and the game was lagging noticeably. Started getting SNR and dropped frames as described, until finally I got disconnected. At this point, having verified that there was no issue with the internet and router, I closed the client completely and restarted the game. Suddenly there was no more lag the rest of the night. This hasn't happened since, even playing long hours on the weekend.

Strangely, this issue went away. I haven't had it the last two days. Nothing changed on my end.
