Avernus Question: Demons and Devils work together?

Took hasn't read any of the canon books or played the Avernus PnP source material.
But here is a lore question:

Took thought demons were chaotic evil from The Abyss while devils are lawful evil and from The Nine Hells?
And Took thought demons and devils hate each other and fight all the time?
If Avernus is the first layer of Hell, why are so many of the mobs demons AND devils working together?
What is the ingame story explaining that?

In the dev blog, they are supposed to be fighting but it doesn't seem to have been implemented in the code. I had anticipated the sort of battles seen in Uprising.

The game has some weird truces going on between factions, like Thayans and Dinos who are just chillin' but will gang up on a player that wanders through.

It's a very strange implementation by Cryptic. Devils and Demons are supposed to be on opposite sides of a millennia-spanning war known as the Blood War. Avernus, as the first layer of Hell, is where the demons show up to invade Hell. The devils are constantly fighting their incursions.

Devils are fewer in number, with a limited number of layers in Hell. But, devils are lawful and organized and disciplined.

Demons are infinite but chaotic and unruly. They turn on each other often, they don't follow orders, and they are easily distracted.

Given how much they hate each other and what is at stake, there is no room for alliances or truces between the two groups outside of really specific corner cases that probably shouldn't show up in products without significant explanation.

The easiest way to think of it is to assume that any demons found in Avernus are there to fight devils.
