Mail System

I tend to type up messages in notepad and copy paste the contents to this game for 2 reasons. If the game crashes, I don't lose my work, and I am a slow typist, the 15 minute timeout might kick me.

I tried for the better part of an hour and it seems to be the copy/paste or something is really messed up?? I can send hello to myself. But when I copy paste anything from my note pad, it gives that message "You must be near a mailbox to send items." I am unaware when this changed, because I haven't played for months... October was the last time I used mail in this way.

I stood by the mailbox and still no message sent. It looks like it sent, but never arrives. I will post this up to tech support next, but I never have anything settled by them. They seem to have a long laundry list of stuff they cannot do. I realized friends were not getting information I sent to them and I really need this to work again.

How long have passed between you 'F' the mail box and click the send button?
Can it be time out?

I know the VIP mailbox will time out and fade.

Are you copying the text to your clipboard before or after activating the mail? I've encountered actions that would silently break the connection to a mailbox.

Also, it seems you are physically interacting with a mailbox. Have you tried using the mail icon at the top of the screen? The actual mailbox is only necessary when sending item. It doesn't seem that you are trying to do that.

Finally, is what you are copying plain text only? There might be formatting that is confusing the game.

To be honest, I don't know if the 15 minute time out can or cannot happen while I am typing. But imagine you have 3 paragraphs go poof! for any reason. I save a copy to my hard drive and pull it up in note pad. CRTL+A CTRL+C and open my game mail and CTRL+V. Send and nothing...

Tech support asked me for "screen shots"... yea I thought that was odd. So I sent them the following 6 with the same explanation.
1. Screen shot of current mailbox.

2. copy and paste 1 word message "Hello"

3. mail sent and received.

4. reply to same message with larger copy paste.

5. mail sent??

6. No new mail.


I have tried a lot to figure this out, but this didn't fail like this back in October. Something on their end has changed.

"You must be near a mailbox to send items" shows up in the successful 'Hello' message screenshot as well. I think that can be ruled out as significant to the problem.

The screen shot does help because I can see the "You must be near a mailbox to send item" is not an error message so I don't think it has any relationship to time out.
I think the system somehow cannot handle some character(s) (may be hidden) that you pasted (whatever it is).

My question at this point. Can anyone else mail themselves a copy / paste paragraph or is this only me? That is what I should have asked, I assumed players would try it. Copy and paste any text address to yourself for a test.

I thought you already did that successfully with a single 'Hello' which was copied and pasted too, right?
Try 'copy and paste' 3 "Hello" in 3 paragraph.

All day yesterday this was only allowing 1 or 2 words to be pasted. It works now, I assume maintenance shook something loose.
@plasticbat Did you not see that it failed on the larger 4 lines I pasted into the mail?

I guess it don't matter now, not like that will ever happen again, right?

Yes, I saw that 4 lines. But, is it because of that particular 4 lines (which I said it may have some hidden character the system does not like) or any 4 lines (such as 4 hello in 4 paragraphs)? I suspect it is former.

besides the normal alphanumeric text, the only hidden object would be the CRLF which is common in Windows text files. Problem solved by server maintenance. Not sure I am happy about that but no longer an issue.
