Undermountain respawn points bug

Three times now I have started the 'Invitation Letter' quest and have got as far as getting through the portal to Undermountain, having found 3 respawn points. Then I have logged out. However, when I log back in again I'm back in the Moonstone Mask and I have to start from scratch. What gives??!!

    A respawn point is where you go when you die. It isn't a save point. Whatever you do, the game remembers automatically. However, if you log out in instanced content, such as a dungeon or lair, the game will only keep that instance open for a short time before closing it. In this case, your progress will be lost and upon logging in again, you will be placed back at whatever location you entered the instance from.
