Helping a lower level character with an expedition to the next zone counts against master expedition

I had a Master expedition quest in my journal.
I went to the catacombs (Well's End) via signpost from Yawning Portal
Helped my friend complete the expedition to unlock twisted caverns.
Upon exiting the expedition, I was back at Yawning Portal without the Master Expedition quest.
NPC allowed me to retrieve another two Master Expedition quests, which I completed.
I received no rewards for the first quest and cannot pick up another.
Happened on as Lv 80 Hunter Ranger
