Awakened Essence reagent

Ok so awakened essence is a reagent for the restoration of the successor armor. Fine and dandy. Has anyone figured out how to upgrade the essence that is dropped in the ME's or is it a separate drop altogether?

    You get an Essence from the end chest (if RNG favors you and you've been in LoMM). During a 3-rune run a specter may appear (Watcher run). If you have the Essence, you can awaken it, and summon a Shimmering Lord all at the same time.
