Class Hopping

Mod 16 has been with us for several weeks on PC now (and not long before it hits the consoles) and I'm curious as to whether all the changes have influenced players to swap their mains for an alt (i.e. class hop)? For long term players who have invested a lot into their mains over the years, it could be a lot of work through campaigns and cost to replace gear.

I mainly play console, but have a couple of characters on PC (mainly to get a heads up on new content). I liked my combat HR prior to mod 16, but have struggled to find a set up that both works and I enjoy playing so much in Mod 16. Conversely, my Cleric who I previously only played to help out in daily dungeons, seems to be dealing more damage and is also survivable and I'm finding that I've played that more since mod 16.

Have you stuck with your main or swapped to an alt of a different class? What were you playing before and what have you swapped to and why?

Stuck to my main. For me at least, cleric is still in a very good spot, yes the whole divinity stuff is clunky, but it is still in a good place to me.

To be honest, I've always found the divinity thing clunky even before mod 16. It always felt to me like the devs ran out of ideas for a unique play style when they got to Clerics and ended up coming up with an approach that probably seemed great on paper, but feels clumsy in use. I've played all of the classes and Cleric was the only one that I found awkward to get used to (just my personal experience obviously). In fact, I found with recovery stacked, I rarely had to use divinity in PVE content and the lower queues anyway (mainly just for the buffs/debuffs in long fights).

In mod 16, with stacks of radiant and stacks of burning and divinity, it does seem a little overly complicated (although I actually like the idea of having to pray to build divinity; even if it does feel a little too slow in the devout path). What I did for the dps build to make it more manageable in my head was to put the at-will that builds stacks of burning on the left mouse button and then the encounter that makes use of those stacks under 'Q' (the left of control keys), then the at-will that builds radiant on the right mouse button and the encounter that makes use of it under 'R' (the right of the control keys). A very simple idea, but I never get mixed up with what I'm using. I also use the at-will that builds divinity quickly to recharge divinity if it is getting low.

I was bored doing ME runs to earn gear that will be likely get nerfed or superseded by the next widget soon, so I created a new account - intend it to be strictly F2P, no Zen purchases of any kind - to just see how the other half lives in M16. Trying out a fighter build right now - and it's doing alright so far.

After less than an hour she got to level 7 in Blacklake, the damage is pretty decent. Weird not having all the bonuses I'm accustomed to from my other account (max VIP, inscribed underwear, instant mounts/companions from old class packs, etc) - there isn't much challenge yet - as is intended I suppose. We'll see how long it takes to get to level 80, and how F2P in end game works now.

Stuck with my HR and switched from my previous pvp tweaked version to straight pve. Pvp pretty much died in mod16.
No idea what my toon is now.

I played 6 classes equally. Since mod 16 changed everything, that means I have 6 "new" classes to deal with. I have been learning mod 16 slowly. I did that intentionally because of various known bugs and various moving targets. Anyway, At this moment, I only play 2 characters. I only finished undermountain campaign for my SW and almost done for a TR. I chose to do them first for no particular reason because I intended to do for all 6. They just happen to be the first 2 characters in the list.

I had a maxxed GWF & CW. After playing them both in preview then getting the CW companions all maxed out at live... I decided to start a Paladin from scratch. Been playing a lowly Paladin ever since trying to scrape together enough AD for a Legendary companion or get lucky enough to pull a mount from the lockbox. (even though my two ex-mains that I no longer play have a dozen Legendary companions & a couple Legendary Mounts)

Just wanna add that as a DPS primary for over a year.. i was sceptical about trying the new 'nerfed' Paladin. No regrets. It's defense is only so-so... but it's DPS about two-thirds of my CW or GWF, plus its a breeze to solo with, so I'm happy.
