Why neverwinter has changed

jeremytheman232jeremytheman232 Member Posts: 231 Arc User
Im going to state an obvious and unpopular hypothesis. Neverwinter has turned away from longterm especially endgame players. Its a fact. Why tho? Because at endgame myself included we complained we wernt get enough riches from dungons etc. We wanted more and more however most of us started spending less and less. This led to income drop because new players had a hard time starting and catching up on top of end gamers blowing through low level areas ruining the experience for them. I remember when i first started neverwinter it took a full instance to down the dragons for tyranny campaign. The cloak tower we would get all the parts for the extra chests. Now its a race to the finish. So on top of higher players spending less the newer players dont enjoy trying to catch up or experience the game with the difficulty we day 1 players had. Less money means less people they can pay and hire and less they can put into the game. This mod seems to be basically evening the playing feild for new players while giving end gamers 10 more levels and some new content as well. We complain the content is too easy and we finish new campaigns too fast and then sit bored waiting on the next one yet when they make it so all content is hard again we complain more. If the rewards are massive and the fights are easy we will max out and be bored in no time. I think if they fix some of the scaling to make it difficult but not impossible it will be great for everyone.

The problem is that levelling queues have not changed. Higher item level players can still race to the end and if anything they have more reason to now as everything else takes so much longer. If anything this will be worse now as you can claim the first completion bonus on each character so everybody will be running their alts through the levelling queue

Newer players, as things stand, will not be able to complete intermediate queue without higher il and more experienced players as the scaling is just too rough.

I agree they did this to try and milk money out of unsuspecting new players, but most new players will quit when they hit 70 as the game becomes far too difficult for a first time character

I thought at first that scaling made new and old players closer together but it actually does the opposite. The things that do not get scaled: Artefacts, mount stats and companion bonuses will give the higher level player a huge advantage. Yes we are still under powered, but nowhere near to the extent of new players. A new player may have one epic companion and mount and epic artefacts or Barovia artefacts.

All this mod does is make experienced players group up in premade teams to do queues, leaving all the new players to PUG and fail constantly.

Less than half of experienced players regularly form groups (unless they have to). The assumption that all experienced players are speed-running dungeon queues is a false stereo type. Many of them are, but not most. What really surprises me, is that they did not bother overhauling the dungeon chest rewards to make the carpel tunnel you get from Pugging queues worth a player's time.

Besides the normal chest rewards... they should add a chance of getting a great random reward from a BIG list:

Chance of an extra superior award:
    2% = Leveling Queue locales
    4% = Intermediate Queue locales
    8% = Advanced Queue locales

    SAMPLE OF SUPERIOR REWARD TABLE:
20% bag of gold (75 gold)
    20% 3 Companion Upgrade Tokens
20% random green or blue Companion from the complete list
    20% AD chest (25,000 AD)
    20% Tarmalune Coffer (50 Tarmalunes)

Elimination of foundry should have been a clue.
The game has gone from growth to slow cash out.
They will streamline, monetize and reduce cost to suck all the money they can
    before the game is pulled.
It might be a couple of years but the game is heading to the end slowly.
Expect less, that will cost more.
Later, it will go into maintain mode, minimal staff, no new content (just repackage what they already have)
    then they pull the plug.

The question is, why did the Devs strip away the amazing customization of the old skill-tree and boons?

They were complex and fun to experiment with. Now its just, meh. Isn't one of the reasons of buying and using multiple loadouts so we can adjust our character on-the-fly depending on the situation we're in?

Yet look at the scant choices we are given now! What I'm seeing here is not an expansion improving the game's quality of life, but a complete idiot-level downgrade. We gamers are not idiots, so why are the Devs treating us as if we are idiots who can't handle a customizable skill-tree?

The state of the game at this point makes me glad I wasn't foolish enough to purchase ZEN to buy more loadouts!

Looking back at how Star Wars Galaxies tried to reinvent the wheel and in the end, killed their own game, I am finding the future of Neverwinter to be looking very bleak. And yes, wasn't seeing WildStar shut down not warning enough?

If its not broken, don't fix it!

@ the Devs: Look, I know you Devs are trying your best under pressure from Perfect World. And as a gamer who's been around since Pong, I appreciate your efforts. But this is just... sad.

They couldve added scalled tiers in dungeons.. for people who wanted higher difficulty with more rewards.. and they couldve still cut out lifesteal, recovery, buffs and powersharing.

All of this couldve happened, instead of the limiting piece of HAMSTER they gave us.

The game has lost most of its fun for me, I have 19 days of vip left at this point, then will take a break most likely to see if they change some of the ridicolousness up.

BTW.. I think many players give out assumptions about who runs what but the end of the day its very simple.

WE ALL NEED AD to progress and play the game.

Some of you wanted AD to play free as well.

I was willing to move VIP to cash shop only ages ago for company to remain profitable.. but the lore and cry about that was tremendous.

Simply put, they the game company has to make profit, but I fail to see how they at all will righ tnow.. There is little to no reason to progress, if I could turn of leveling feature, I would.
