I'm curious to find out how you guys manage your inventory and what your advice is to do with mine. So, I have a bunch of questions around this (btw, I'm a Control Wizard/70/11K):
I have various bags to hold a bunch o' stuff and they're pretty much all stuffed. Even the handful of slots in my guild storage are all taken. I gotta bail on some stuff. I'm guessing I'm holding onto things I really shouldn't care about.
* I don't know why I have attachment to the original Barovia Vistani stuff, since I've replaced most of it with Primal gear. I guess I should sell that stuff...I don't think there's anything else I can do with it since it was bound to my character?
* I have various shards that I've been accumulating, but not enough to turn into anything. They're taking a bunch of room. Are there particular shards I should hang onto. I guess I could donate them to the guild.
* I have four items for collecting elemental motes. I've never collected a single mote. Any reason to hang onto these.
* I have a bunch of Account bound items that seem pretty cool, but I don't really think I need them now. I can't donate them to the guild bank nor can I auction them (I hate that part). Sell/refine them?

Want to clear out stuff but scared of throwing something awesome away..
Sell or refine as much as you can.
Its hard at first selling a +5 ring that 2 years ago you would be drooling over or an artifact that would have suited you back then.
But with powercreep and crafted stuff at Item Level 500+ and Artifacts cheap as chips not much point in keeping old stuff
If/when I win or earn a Runic bag from my guild, I give it to one of the pack mules. This works for me.
How about all those different types of shards where you need 9 to do anything and even then it's expensive since you need one of those special wards?
But yeah, create mules. Buying extra toon slots is cheaper then buying bags.
I have a lot of mule character and I lose count of them. Each one is kind of dedicating to certain type of stuff such as Artifact, mount, enchantment, transmute (I never do transmute by the way), companion, lockbox, ...
My mute are usually level 4. I have stack and stack and stack and ... of bound/unbound RP. Stack and stack of enchantment and some of them are actually only r4. That can tell when I started to be a hoarder. Too lazy to sell them.
I kind of stopping adding mule character especially after they added the barrier when you first reach PE (which is not a real PE anymore). There is a way to skip it because I have VIP. Anyway, I start to clean up a bit when my mule are kind filling up now.
> So, at the risk of appearing dumb.....how do you know if something is particularly rare or valuable...is there a simple way to tell by looking at the item characteristics?
Look in AH for things like artifacts, mounts and enchants. Hate to say that most of the stuff you get from dungeon boxes are going to be cheap due to re-roll tokens.
My mailbox is one letter short of red lining with all the stuff I've stored in there. It's a clonkier version of shared bank slots.
Would definitely sell if you can.
But seriously, I own 4 guilds and use the 150K & 300K bank panes to store many of my items. A bank guild is cheap and easy to make, the only rule is; you cannot store bound items. Each pane has 48 slots and the first will cost 150K AD. I don't see a benefit to go beyond 2 panes.
If there are 400+ listed and the Buyout price is 1100AD then you probably don't need to hang on to yours if space is an issue, since you'll probably be able to replace it easily at a later time.
If, however, the thing you have has 28 listed and the lowest price is, say, 650'000 AD then it is probably worth asking someone in your guild/alliance WHY it's so desirable. If its something that your character can use, based on class/paragon then its up to you what to do with it. If it's a Healer specific artefact, and you are a DPS Rogue, and have no intention of playing a Healer, sell it.
If you can't find anyone in game to ask, come here and someone will be able to tell you.
I would always check before binding a valuable item just because the tooltip says "Recommended" cos that's not always the case. (I've often equipped items with a lower IL because an Equip power is a better option than the Stats of a higher IL item.)
I've been playing over 4 years and I still come back to ask questions.
