I'm thinking come back to Neverwinter

ddaironddairon Member Posts: 3 Arc User
Hey guys!
So, a friend and I was playing Neverwinter around 3 or 4 years ago (we stoped some months later Rise of Tiamat was released) and we are thinking come back to Neverwinter, but, I remember we stoped playing because AD was so hard to get and there was a limit of 24k refined AD per day, and we use AD on everything in those days. We just couldn't buy stuffs on AH because we needed AD to Campaign, and anything on AH was so expensive.
So, my doubts are, still AD so hard to get today, there are some limit to refine AD per day? Still stuffs so many expensive on AH? And, whats is new today in relation those days I was Playing, where can I see all modules and changes on Neverwinter after Rise of Tiamat?

Thanks guys!

PS.: Sorry about my horrible English unfortunetely isn't my mother language.

Many things in neverwinter have changed from back then to now. New refinement system is in place and the AD limit is account wide with that limit being 100K AD per day now. As far as getting AD go's That is a bit easier to obtain. You can buy AD now using campaign currency or run dungeons which provide AD straight from the chest. Chest in dungeons now require no epic keys to open and no more salvage at all in game any more. As for prices on the AH some things are reduced in price over the changes that was made but there are those few items that are still high in price. I am sure others may reply and give more info. As for seeing changes and such try looking in the patches forum.

New class (Paladin) and Level 70.

AD was 24k per day per character then turned into 36k per day per character and finally turned 100k per day per account.

    Random queues.

    New refinement system (much better).

New profession system (gold and time sink).

A lot of new artifacts, gear, companions, mounts and reworking classes.

New campaigns (Elemental Evil, Underdark, Maze Engine, Storm King, Cloaked Ascendancy, Chult, Ravenloft/Barovia and Acquisitions Incorporated) and a lot of new boons for each one of them.

Stronghold system for Guilds (they have their own boons).

Overall i think refining artifacts, enchants and gearing up (do that in Chult and Barovia hunts) is easier right now, but of course rank 14 stuff is hard because of Ultimate Enchanting Stones and Coalescent Ward.

No more key for chests at dungeons, only a reroll system (which is waaaay better).

Changes keep happening that people don't want.
It seems the producers are trying to push everyone away and close shop on neverwinter to possibly open up a new project.
Avoid the drama, avoid the heartache. We are the abused men and women that can't seem to shake free of our abuser. Don't join us.

I hate paying taxes! Why must I pay thousands of dollars in taxes when everything I buy is taxed anyways!

    ...and conspiracy theories abound.
I'm not looking for forgiveness, and I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we're here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we'll fight you too.

    1) Mod 6, which should have simply been walked back, almost completely ruined the game with pointless power and HP creep after level 60 and the elimination of most dungeons. They've been brought back, except for the Dead Vault and whatever the long anti-mind flayer skirmish was called, but most of the side areas are gone and Castle Never is completely different, though not horrible. Things that used to be challenging are now easy.
    2) Boss encounters ever since then have been getting progressively worse, with pointlessly awful control/immunity instadeath mechanics that take practice and sometimes specific group compositions to deal with, tending towards a meta of 4 support classes and 1 DPS (usually a GWF since the devs don't seem to understand that most of us want to play DPS though not all who do want to play GWF, so other DPS classes get ignored, occasionally buffed but then nerfed into the ground for no reason a short while later).
    3) Whole new professions system. It's a mixed bag, infested with unnecessary RNG, requiring too much time to accomplish anything significant (e.g. leveling up mastercrafting), and horribly bugged with respect to +1 items, which the devs claim are tooooooooooooo haaaaaaaaaaard to fix despite several obvious simple workarounds that couple be implemented instantly, but more useful than it has been for a while, and if your guild's alliance has all the masterwork vendors it's more time consuming than anything else, requiring you to spend time every day earning guild marks, speaking of which:
    4) Mod 6 made guilds much more important. You need to be in a guild with decent boons to really be able to handle group content at a high level, especially if you're still working on your equipment.
    5) PVP is dead. Class balance is a sick joke and the devs don't seem remotely interested in fixing it, so it's just the same 20 or so people, mostly overcompensating GFs, TRs and GWFs and the occasional persistent but bored members of other classes. There's no skill involved anymore and the community is toxic beyond belief, so stay away.
    6) Your 100k AD/day is actually pretty easy to make, so whatever you need from the AH, you'l eventually be able to get, and getting VIP through the zen/AD exchange is therefore easy to do. Though don't expect much from your daily lockbox key. In fact, don't expect anything from it. It mostly provides a flow of trade bars to buy consumables like mass life scrolls and health stones, and the occasional batch of companion upgrade tokens. Upgrading your enchantments and so on won't take long.
    7) The only things that are really expensive on the AH are high quality mounts, some high quality mount insignias (a complicated subject), and products of master crafting. Acceptable but not best in slot gear can be bought with the seals you get by running dungeons. Some pieces will be better if obtained from hunts in Chult and Barovia (and you're lucky you missed out on the starvation period when trophy drops from Chult hunts were not automatic, but instead dribbled out by the obnoxious RNG).
    8) Gear gates for anything above the random intermediate queue are much too low (remember minimum level players in original CN? Same thing), so don't waste your time and that of other players by queueing for advanced and expert content until you have most of your boons and are 2-3k over the minimum IL requirement.

Take it slow if you come back. There's a lot to learn about builds, group dynamics, professions, mounts, and how to handle content anymore, so at least there's a lot to do if you haven't been here for a while.

My suggestion, ignore becoming an "elite" player. As others suggested, join an active guild and they can help you build up a decent character. The cheapest routes are either a OP tank or a DC healer/buffer (mostly buffing as healing in end game is mostly dead). And watch youtube on dungeon runs so you know what you are doing.

The most important thing to spend AD and RP on are bonding stones for a good companion. The nice thing about them are you can bond one at LV 4 after completing the training scenario and you can move your stones to a better companion when you can afford one. The Con Artist is currently the cheapest to get into although a quick jaunt into the Maze Engine will net you a Uncommon Battle Rager Dwarf with three ring slots and it took me about an hour get that from starting the campaign.

I use the Battle Rager Dwarf - great companion and three ring slots mean you can get some good rings really easy for it

I remember seeing some guides on getting geared up on the cheap. Right now, once you have a LV 70 alt, you can hit Ravenloft and get a ton of free gear. Then hit the AD market and buy the 500 item level armor stuff for less then 1000AD a piece (the price of one minor dungeon run). A lot of decent artifacts on the market as well, go epic. Keep doing your runs and skirmishes for Brave tokens to turn in for rings for you and your main companion. With this gear you can keep most toons alive in Ravenloft.

AD is not that hard to get, but there is an account-wide 100K per day refine limit. That may or may not be a good thing for you, but given your situation, unless you had an alt army, you will likely consider it good. Understand that all your gear, everything, even your enchants (which if they were max R10s then are now a little better than what's considered baseline now, which is R8 plus or minus a rank) are absolutely and completely worthless.

Before you start: Join a good guild. If you are having a hard time finding one, PM me: I'll get you into mine or another guild in my alliance. It's worth it, even if you don't care about interacting with guild mates - having access to a guild stronghold and guild boons, plus a pool of people willing to run content with you for real (rather than nameless faceless pugs) is vital.

Then you'll need to get yourself leveled to 70 so you can unlock Ravenloft, go though the easy intro and get the Vistani gear and replace EVERYTHING you own with it. The second thing you'll want to do is start running through the campaigns you missed (in order, as you may not be able to do the newer ones like Chult or Ravenloft until you've geared up a bit). While doing so, you'll earn Seals of the Brave - use those to get Primal gear from the seal vendor and slowly replace all the Vistani stuff.

After that - it's just character building. A good guild / alliance will help you along.

    Good luck and good hunting!
