Recently an old MMO I tried back in 2012, sent me mail about their
new option for Pay to Play or Free to Play model. Rift is a (wow-like) MMO and I felt the plot fell apart very quickly. While I did spend about $40 playing it, I found it to be lacking in several areas. There wasn't enough depth to hold my attention long. After a while it boils down to mass army chasing down rift portals and closing them. Now they have a separate server for those willing to pay $15 per month or $132 per year for the better hardware and software. They call it a progression sever meaning you play all the modules in order. However, they are not fixing the story, just offering better service.
Would you want Neverwinter to offer a premium server to give you better game play? Personally I look at this offer from Trion as nothing short of a bribe or extortion. The idea should be; your company makes a great game, with superb graphics, good game play, and a great story to follow. Then players such as myself would pay because the quality of workmanship. Not because it is free or better service or "we will actually make an effort" for additional cash.
I found it pretty laughable that they created this on March 2018, and they announce only 1 month later, the server was "a rousing success" and had "record numbers" in the
second paragraph on this page. How can you NOT get record numbers for being online for 30 days?!?
