Are reward chest re-roll tokens supposed to be an auto use?

I'm asking this lieke this, as i'm not sure it's a bug or not. My new character just started the Sharander campaign and after completing the Gnarlroot caves I open the reward chest, and if the Redcap Sickle is not in the list of items, I can't claim it. Instead, it suto uses my re-roll tokens until the sickle appears, then it claims like normal. Other dungeons and reward chest seem to be fine, but after having done Gnarlroot Caves twice now, I have lost over 10 tokens just to get the same piece of equipment twice. So any thoughts on this?
