I know that the new professions system isn't popular, and is too complex or costly for many players, but it's a clear direction taken, and I want to provide better feedback than "bring back the old system".
So with that in mind I would suggest these changes to keep the ethos of the new system, but make it smoother and less daunting:
First up we have some stuff I've gleaned from helping people:
The name +1 is a major problem for many people. It's an ambiguous term. I've helped people who thought it was somehow quantity based, and they were the ones who even noticed it. Renaming to something like high quality would help massively.
On a similar note, some people who did notice the +1s could not figure out how to make them. The green box tutorial gives too much information all at once. This information might be better given with the upgrade quest when you have to make 3 +1s.
Also one last point- some people did not realise that they only needed to make one of the upgrade list, and made the whole thing, all in normal quality, before realising that they'd done something wrong. I'm not sure how you'd fix this, perhaps there has to be a point where you have to rely on people to read the quest, but it's a stumbling block for some anyway.
And my own personal issues:
The commissions system could do with a workshop based representative or better yet a tab in the crafting window. This doesn't have to mean a shop to actually hand things in if you want us to go to the market for some reason. But as it is, with most professions already maxed but without either a working knowledge of what is made by what and a large stockpile of raw materials I'm having to scribble a lot down on paper.
Also/or it might be useful to have things more formally arranged by profession and rank in the commission shop window, so we can see at a glance which few we're likely to be able to do.
The retainer interface could do with going back a "page" rather than closing completely whenever you are finished with what you're doing.
The exchange old items page is a mess. I understand that it runs on the existing shop code, so it can't have, say, a search, but alphabetising would be good.
The retainer is also kind of lifeless, would be nice to have a choice that actually mattered rather than which one you like the look of. Maybe that's just me.
Gathering I'm not sure how to fix within the framework. But it being physically separate,
and cannot be sped up with tokens,
and cannot be directed remotely,
and has several different tools all adds up to a very poor experience.
The delivery box and task window could do with indicators that tasks have been put on indefinite, and the delivery box could use a counter in case of limited recurrence. These tasks can take hours, and complete over and over again, and in the case of gathering the only way to remind yourself remotely what you've set up is by taking a peek in the delivery box.
Welp, that's all I can think of for now, and the patch hiatus is over
. I'm still not a big fan of the system, but it's growing on me, and after all all anyone can do is move forwards.
