contest of liars winning team / visage of roots

sorry I am not sure if anyone posted about this already.

when and where was the winning team announced for the contest of liars? I am assuming the winners were the Knotty Roots because I see the Masquerade Vendor has the Visage of Roots available.

I was on the winning team, but I did not receive the free illusion mask. How are we receiving it? I tried talking to the contest organizer yesterday (Nov 5th) by the tree of life standing in front of the 3 team leaders, but there was no progress/notification, and with today's update, they are gone.

Are we supposed to talk to someone or do we receive it by in-game mail?

Members of the winning team are supposed to receive an in-game mail with the Mask attached (one per account). Be thankful you were on the winning team. I play on Xbox One and the cost for players not on the winning team is 100,000 AD. I have no intention of buying it at that price.

1 per account? Considering some players put in uber hours grinding across all alts for the win, that seems a tad stingy for the winning side.

I have only been playing Neverwinter for 2 months and also grinded on my 2 characters, but was not on the winning team. At least players on the winning team don't have to pay 100,000 AD, per character, for the Mask. Charging that much, for what amounts to a novelty item, for players on one of the losing teams is a tad stingy. IIRC, players on the winning team only have to pay 20,000 AD for each additional character.

has anyone on the winning tem received the visage of roots by in-game mail? I still have not received anything 2 days after the contest ended. I can buy one from the masquerade vendor for 10,000 astral diamonds, but I do not want to get an extra if I am supposed to already get one for free.

I was on the winning team and have not received the reward. I do however have the option to purchase it for 100k AD just like everyone else. I definitely did well beyond the minimum to receive a reward.

you mean purchase the visage of roots for 10k AD, right? I think people that were on the pumpkin or witch team have to purchase for 100k, but if you were on the winning Knotty Roots team, it is available to buy from the masquerade vendor for 10k.

(although we are supposed to receive it by in-game mail for free from what I understand)

OK so... I was on a loosing team, I guess we did not randomly guess which of the three to choose and randomly win. I mean it does not matter how much effort you or even your guild mates put in because a hundred thousand other people could have chosen something completely different and you would not have know. But set that aside...

If you participated with at least the minimum (which they never seem to define what that actually was, I assumed the slider on the event indicator) and you lost you were suppose to get to buy it at a reduced price. It is showing up as 100,000 AD for me. Is that the reduced rate one?

No mask yet for me.

But I did not like the way it was handled in general.

The one upside is that it is just a novelty item, but why does it cost so much for a novelty item for those on the losing side?

And why is the reward based upon what everyone else did? I mean, people that chose the "wrong" team likely didn't have much chance no matter how much work they might have put in.

Would have much rather seen personal goals (either per player or per character), and everyone that met them would get the mask of their team. Everyone that did not would get an option to buy. In that case if they wanted to charge 100K it wouldn't matter because it was all up to the individual player.

I was fortunate to have chosen the "right" team, and I did help in some way, whether I was above or below average I do not know, but the losing teams almost certainly lost because of numbers, not because the people on the winning team all did so much more than they did.

I was on the winning team and contributed well over the minimum. No mask via mail and the vendor sells it to me for 100k, not for 10k as some claim here.

When the event started the required number of quest completions was 35, it only changed to 20 after a patch. I think that maybe the reward calculation is still based on the original requirement of 35.

No surprise I had to ask someone in a Random Queue Dungeon where/why they were dressed like a Razorwood. Mistook it for the companion at first.
If you play Neverwinter long enough you can see these things coming.

I stopped at 22 as the gauge stopped at 20.

Are you all saying that you're unhappy that you spent 2 weeks farming an event under the hopes you would the free mask?

Disappointed because you grinded out the event and still have to pay 100k for the item? All because you randomly picked a team that ended up losing. Fun right?

Who would have thought that players would be unhappy at having wasted their time for 2 weeks only to get rewarded with the ability to spend 100k AD on a novelty item?

Like someone said above, you play this game long enough and you learn to avoid these traps the dev's seem to think are fun. I got a broom and said adios to the event since it was a waste of time IMO.

This is NW 2018 and beyond now. Event rewards aren't rewarded. They're bought with AD.

I'm going to reserve judgement until I hear from a moderator or dev. But the rules were pretty clear - winning team gets the perma-mask (for a year) for free. I had 73 completions for the Root/Groot team - I expect I'm getting the mask at some point here.

In hindsight it was probably not a good plan - scheduling release of a new mod on top of the housekeeping chore(s) needed to handout rewards for a just completed event.

You are all wondering that Roots team win... But there's no "official" information. Maybe the Root mask was the only mask available for sale just 'cause the other 2 teams are both winners and only the members of Roots team must pay AD to have permanent masks... Make sense for me...

I see now my statement was a little confusing. I wasn't referring to the mask specifically when I said "This is NW 2018 and beyond now. Event rewards aren't rewarded. They're bought with AD."

That was more a statement on the broom mount.

I fully suspect the winning team will get their masks eventually. It's probably just delayed due to the release of a buggy mod that no ones pleased with.

Both other teams can not be winners. Only one team could win.

But otherwise maybe you are right. Maybe the reason Team Tree didn't get masks for free is because Team Tree didn't win. Any assumptions about the winning team are just that as far as I know.

But anecdotal evidence, however slight, supports Team Tree. I noticed more people in root masks than any other mask and saw more chat about Team Tree than any other.

Again, it's anecdotal, I get that.
In a game where people can hide their headwear any number of "invisible" masks could have been Pumpkinhead or the Witch, and just because people were talking more about Team Tree doesn't mean anything. Could be I just happened to join the team that attracted all of the loudmouths.

But in general, you would think that the percentages should work out a little more smoothly. That there would be roughly the same percentages of people hiding their masks on all of the teams, and roughly the same percentages of people on other teams willing to make those shout-outs in zone chat.

An official notice with a little more clarity sure would have been nice.

"Congratulations to Team Knotty Roots (or whoever)! Every member that completed their minimum participation requirements …" and then list the info on getting the mask for the winners and the losers.

Still though, I hope that they change the event next year.

I just hate that my success or failure at winning something from an event, whatever that something may be, is dependent not on me or even a group that I join to run a dungeon or skirmish, but on what literally hundreds if not thousands of other players decide to do and little else.

If next year some large guilds post that they are joining team Witchy-Poo and post something to that extent on the forums encouraging that many more people to join that team, woe be unto anyone that misses the memo.

I would like to hear from a mod when/if they are planning to mail the winning team the visage of roots (assuming the Knotty Roots team won). I can buy one from the masquerade vendor for 10k astral diamonds, but would rather not if we are supposed to get one for free.

Is it true that we will only be getting 1 per account? I had 3 characters that all contributed well over the quota, so I was hoping they would each receive a free visage. I suppose though that the fact that it is available from the masquerade vendor at a discount means that we will only get 1 per account?

Trying to figure out how to attach screenshots of the GM case I have open on this, but it looks like this might be a dead-end. This is despite having to do a back-and-forth with the team to actually get them to understand how the event was described, and being able to prove to that I was on the team that had won.

Unfortunately, there is nothing further we can offer as far as information. If you did not receive the mask, then you have to purchase it. I apologize for the inconvenience, but this is what the developers have stated and we cannot go against that. We have no information other than the same that you have.

I asked the developers for further information and they clarified this. Unfortunately, why you did not get the mask is because you did not contribute enough to earn one. The price in the market is solely based on how much you contributed to the event and only players who contributed a considerable amount would earn a visage. I apologize for the miscommunication.

ok thank you lucavern for getting a gm response to this. at least we know now. it is ridiculous, because I definitely contributed much much more than the quota on the winning team to be eligible. I unlocked it on the 3rd or 4th day of running the event, and every day thereafter I was contributing from the treat collections in the various zones.

I am curious though if *anyone* received an in-game mail with the visage attached ?

I was on the winning team, had max contribution, and did not receive a mask in the mail. My only option was to pay 100K AD, which of course I'm not doing because... meh.

Wait....what? They intentionally updated the threshold DOWNWARD in an update a few days after the event started. And I don't see any comments from devs about what the actual threshold for getting a free mask was then (since the GM message clearly indicates one must have existed).

The mask is a digital toy - it isn't going to break the economy, affect balance or anything game related. What is the rationale for this super secret denial of the advertised prize to those who participated and met the previously announced threshold?

Based on what the in-game event was indicating, the contribution threshold was set to 20. However, there was no official announcement that 20 was the actual value needed for the mask, but that was the implied value based on the way the event was being tracked/displayed while it was running.

The answers I've gotten have left with this feeling that they falsely advertised the event and gift giveaways, and now aren't giving any real answers to explain anything. It really feels like they screwed something up with the event when they did the maintenance to lower the requirements and it created a bunch of problems with how they were tracking the event/rewards. And instead of being able to identify/fix the issue, they are trying to dismiss it and sweep it under the rug.

Oh come on guys, it's only 100k AD, whether they fix it or not, it's actually pretty cool that you move like Groot for 10 minutes, after it expires, you simply renew it, for all intensive purposes, it's permanent. It's also account bound so you can move it around the character you want to wear it. 100k is just one day of grinding. That's my 2 cents anyway. Wish we could also buy the other 2, I took it that you could buy the other looks too, oh well.

I am still confused about this. What was the threshold, even the higher one before lowering it? I assumed it was the counter on the event banner, that once you filled it you were past the threshold. I mean why have a ticker on a banner if it does not mean anything? Am I wrong?

This is kind of infuriating. Was the threshold 20 or 35? I think I did 33 so if I missed it by 2 because I had been mislead by what appeared to be a lowered threshold, that is BS. I mean, I'm not actually going to waste any anger on a vanity cosmetic item that I only chose because it was the only one I didn't hate, but having a new event coincide with a new module release was a bad idea in hindsight.

Well, if you are being charged 100K - then the 10K price I'm quoted must be the 'reward' for being on the winning team...

Sure would have been nice if the devs, mods or Community Manager had bothered to post these details at the conclusion of the event (ie - who the winning team was, what the reward was, etc).

What a marketing fiasco. Advertise a contest in advance - highlight the reward for the contest to build interest - then completely ignore the thing when the event closes down and let your customers figure it out for themselves.

Good Lord, what an utter failure. The rng mechanics for getting the broom were a terrible idea (I gave up after many pinatas and no sash) and then this is the finale for the contest!? Who was the systems designer who thought this rework would be fun or feel rewarding at all? Yikes.

Aren't they reworking winter festival as well? I'm honestly scared to see what is going to happen to it. RIP winter fest I'm guessing.
