Im looking for an old mmo. I think sometime around 2006-2009.
Iirc, this game is the standard fantasy stuff with orcs and other things.
But it became the core to make Neverwinter Online by Cryptic now. In fact, most of the gameplay became Neverwinter now.
Does anyone know abt the old game that made Neverwinter?
Or am I wrong altogether?
Much appreciated.
Edit. I didnt provide enough details. My bad.
IIrc, the game is basically the core of neverwinter. it wasnt made by Cryptic and its not Dungeon and Dragons Online either.
It has abt the same interface as Neverwinter, albeit more gritty in the atmosphere of the game. it has a warhammer feel to it. It has the same sfx too. from the attack sounds to when u are using your mount. basically taking the game and remade neverwinter on top of it.

A lot of Neverwinter (the chat system and / commands among other things) Cryptic used in City of Heroes which was 2004-2012, superhero game, although they sold it in 2007.
When I first started Neverwinter it seemed remarkably similar to Kingdoms of Amalur : The Reckoning although that wasn't an MMO so probably not what you were thinking but worth a mention.

I tried looking for the Kingdoms of Amalur gameplay, it wasnt that.
the game has the same sfx for the most part. even down to the time when u summon a horse mount to ride.
My opinions are my own. I do not work for PWE or Cryptic. - Forum Rules - Protector's Enclave Discord - I play on Xbox Any of my comments not posted in orange are based on my own personal opinion and not official. The "core" of Neverwinter came from the only games Cryptic ever made Star Trek Online, Champions Online and yes they also made City of Heroes for NCSOFT. They cancelled it, so don't blame Cryptic!
My list of older games similar to Neverwinter but not associated;
@sakkara#1578 These old games, are not that old to us. I also recall playing some offline PC games like "The Seventh Guest" and "Myst" from the mid 1990's. My husband says the oldest MMOs were called MUDS (multi user dungeons) back in the 80's but were exclusive to colleges that could afford computers networked to other colleges. I don't think we will be getting an reply to this soon, as @cxyen hasn't been online all month.
I played MUDs as well. Loved Hunt the Wumpus, Hugo's House of Horrors, etc. MUDs weren't exclusive to colleges, but were played by nerds everywhere who had a computer and an internet connection *raises her hand*. When the first LSL came out we were all in geek heaven and played it over and over for months. Those were the days.

Played this one for about 6 months, but the description and premise are lost soon after you start playing. It quickly becomes an army of zerglings chasing dimensional rifts.

I for one still love the original game and don't care much for the "in name only" impostor.

Never played this one but it is another 3D hack and slash.

Again I enjoyed the books better than the films, or the game based on the films and not the books.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_&_Dragons_Online 2006
This one is made in WoW engine style, it does follow the D&D skill set and table top rules much better. I found the 3D lacked quality and the user interface is clunky.

My friends want me to buy this for $10 and join them, I have too much on my plate and while the 3D looks great and the story sound intriguing it is a buy now and pay a lot more later game.

I enjoyed playing Morrowind but I never got into the online version.
Still can't find it?

How about Asheron's Call? This game reminds me a lot of the best of the best - AC, which went live in Nov, 1999.
Also Age of Camelot, circa 2000.
Also Evercrud, er Ever Quest, although not so much.
But I think the OP is thinking of Age of Camelot with the horsey noises, although AC had the Orcs and Trolls.
