It looks good, and I'm glad that we can now somewhat sort the character list, but I really wish there was a way to lock more characters in place beyond "main". I have 21 character slots filled - all level 70 - but would prefer to have my 'main' of each class pinned to the top of the list, with the extras down at the bottom...
It's a definite improvement, though, and a good start!
The new character select screen is much improved, thanks for that!
I know the ultimate improvement would be full drag'n'drop list arrangement, but that would be a pretty hefty GUI undertaking. What I think would be a great addition from here is to add a "Lock List" button. That way, you can sort by "Last Played", go through all your characters in reverse order, then lock the list. This would still allow us to arrange characters, but the change would mostly be back-end instead of GUI.
Short of that, allowing us to select more than one "Main" would be helpful, maybe up to the number of classes in the game (currently 8).
Fantastic job! My suggestion for a future QoL improvement would be a sort by time played! /played in the chat window will tell you the information so it is tracked somewhere!

Yes, indeed good job.
The parts I like: 1. characters look cooler in the new camera angle. 2. It remember the last played character and keep that in the selection menu. 3. More characters shown in the selection menu.
The sorting is a nice touch but it does not help me. I have 3 group of characters. Main (6 character). Level 70 but not main (6 characters). Level 4 storage (9 characters). I would like order them in my grouping. I don't expect there will be a way. Regardless, it is a good job.

Thanks all, so glad you all enjoy the new character screen! @uimaven and I are certainly reading all your suggestions and will add to the feature when possible.
I think I can speak for a lot of us when I say even the ability to simply lock a select group of characters in place (in my case, my main, and one of each other class (alts), and my crafter) would be *huge*. Not sure if that presents the same tech issues as a manual sort, though....

Do you mean having multiple mains? That is something we're working on.

If "main" is an attribute of the character record, allowing multiple main and implement "sort by main, date_whatever" should not be tough. However, I think the information is stored in the account record.

Well, once we add multiple mains you will just be able to mark your mains as "main" and sort the rest of your characters by level...
ETA: Oh, you mean sort within the "level 70" group? Right now the secondary sort is alphabetical, so all your level 70 characters ought to be sorted alphabetically by name. I didn't think of having the ability to specify the secondary sort... let me talk to our programmers about that.

I have 6 mains. Hence, setting up one main does not help me. Hence, at the moment, I set none. What I would like is: mark my 6 mains and then "sort by main, date_created".
So, my 6 main will be on top and within these mains, they are sorted by the date_created. The rest (who are not main) will be below mains and sorted by the date_created.
In other words, allowing multiple main will help me.

My suggestion: do not work on multiple main chars, rather spend that time (and money) working on custom sort. It would satisfy all ordering needs and wishes about the character screen.

The ideal solution would be to allow players to assign a "rank" (say 1-5) to their characters and then sort according to that (and just alphabetically within each rank.
For example, I have 1 "main", which I like to have at the top, 7 other lvl 70s, and 8 "inventory mules" (rank 20-something), which I want at the bottom of my list.
One thought maybe would be to actually just store the sort order locally on each client machine. Yes that would mean they would have to re-sort on a different machine but its not like you are doing it all the time. That wouldn't seem to be a huge technical limitation. Adding sort stuff to the DB obviously would be a different thing entirely.
I'm just happy we can at least see 9 character's now even though I only have 7. But in time I may add a Warlock the last Class I've yet to explore, although I hope maybe a Monk &/or Bard might possibly be coming...

tbh the character screen feels kinda useless to me... is it so hard to just let the player sort his chars manually?
At the moment this is a more complicated tech request.
it's really complicated? each PG could have a related number in an editable box, the player sort the PGs reorganizing their numbers. the system sort numbers from lower to high on player login
however.. it could be very very very nice have a blessing related time on the character select screen so i know on which character i have to prey and when
