Making new keys

eion311eion311 Member Posts: 338 Arc User
So it takes 20hrs to make a key for ToNG/Folly. Than it now goes on cooldown 20hrs before I can make another one!?!?!
This can't be right is it?
Before it would take 20hrs, you would collect your key and than you could instantly start making a new one.
Why the change?

Did you start the task before the server went down? There is a bug report already about that.

It should no longer take 20 hours to make one. They now make instantly and then go down on 20 hour cooldown before you can make one. Please confirm that this is the case for you. Keys started before the patch will need to wait their 20 hours before they can be claimed.

Maybe it has been changed, but the "key check" used to happen when you entered the dungeon. Buying keys once in wouldn't allow you to open the chest(s).

It used to be said that pulling a key from the mail would activate the chest but a bank would not. Now however, I know for a fact that the bonus chest in Tomb will react to a dragon key pulled from the bank.

Weirdly enough, neither The Huntsman nor Primal One achievements recognize items from the bank, only from the vendor or the mailbox.

To be honest they could have just done this to start with and skipped making the key bag to begin with. Oh I dont have a key, no problem I can just make one and tada done.

You still have a cool down to make a key so i guess players that don't make extra keys in advance can only run that dungeon once or not use a key. The big issue issue is for many long term players changing a method they have become accustom to has some disadvantages when it comes to having to remember to make them. Also it did not help that we had that bug at start and screwed up the time i normally collect and and make keys .
Yes, I am one of those who almost always have keys because we make keys everyday (and not necessary use the key everyday) and the notification helps a lot especially I have a few characters. Yes, I did voice my "light" objection when someone brought this idea up.

As long as you can still stockpile keys, this can only be a good change imo. I often forget to make a key, or more often, forget to collect it.

can't see what the problem is with this change, I like it personally.

people can still stockpile keys, and it takes the same amount of time to produce. the difference is that you're getting the key at the beginning rather than the end.

I've found this system to be beneficial personally, as I've entered dungeons in the past not realising I've had the requirements to make the key without actually doing so, and under the old system, I would have not been able to take advantage of it until the next day.

now, I can check to see if I have the requirements and if I do, I can benefit from it immediately instead of having to wait 20 hours.

old system: 20 hours then key.
new system, key then 20 hours.

can't believe people are getting pissy about this change.

Seems like a pain in the butt now for making another key we have to keep track of the cool down and hope not to forget or we will lose time on the a daily key.Do that enough and you just lost a days key. Almost makes me think that was the intentions behind the changes to sell more epic dragon keys. At least before we had a icon light up to remind us key is finished and we could start the process to make another.

So i must be wrong and there is no issue at all in remember to active making a key each day :/ Or am i wrong that it can now be forgotten as we have nothing that lights up or triggers for making key ? :/ Or am i wrong that if we do forget then there is a good chance we will lose out on making a key for that day :/ Or is that none of this can result in cryptic selling more keys :/ Please explain to me what keygate was any of those that cared to disagree with my comment cause i guess none of that was about selling more keys either was it :s
If you are currently making keys every day to stockpile and not use, there's a chance that you will forget. But I think that the devs were seeing that the majority of players were not stockpiling the keys, and instead getting frustrated that they had forgotten to make one and not realizing it until they are at the chest. Now when that happens, you can hurry up and make one to open the chest. I think maybe this may help people stop stockpiling them, but it will help so they can make one if they don't have any instead of buying them. This is a good thing.
Why is stockpiling bad many can not run a dungeon every day to use and save for weekends or off hours. How do the devs see btw so few even post there thoughts or feelings on this forums because they don't have time, don't care ,don't feel they are heard, or get trolled if they have a difference of opinion against the few active players that post. Yet if a player can not plan ahead or realize they don't have a key before they run dungeon well who's fault is that ?
I believe that you might be in the minority, unfortunately. I realize that this new method does suck a bit for players like you, but I'm fairly certain that the devs looked at their numbers for people who weren't opening the chests because they didn't have the key and didn't want to spend Zen to buy the legendary keys. With Random Queues, it made the problem that much more visible.

I shall only speak for myself on this .But the reason I often dont bother to open a chest is because it just isnt rewarding enough. You can only open a chest so many times before you realize that it just isnt worth the key.

I would prefer to have a notification when the Cooldown is over but otherwise have no issues long term. (this would be a welcome change for Underdark Campaign as well)

There is a one time annoyance that keys started before the patch get hit with the timer twice. I started a Relic key on my OP Monday. When I claimed it Tuesday after the patch, the Cooldown started as if the task had just been initiated. This shouldn't be possible innthe future, of course.

I don't even know how such a statement could be made. If this is how things are "statistically" tracked by devs than it says a lot about how things go wrong.

First off, if one of the metrics is checking "hey does player have key" that ignores another important metric. "Does this player run the content to make keys or does he not have a key because he refuses to run old content to make keys". You can't make an argument for not having keys without knowing the reason as to why the player doesnt have a key.

I have a main that has hundreds of Malabogs, Valindras, Epic keys. Other toons, I do not have any of those keys because I won't go back and farm say Sharandar to make Malabogs keys all over. I'll never have the keys on those toons and changing the system won't change a thing for me.

Adding the "and didn't want to spend Zen to buy the legendary keys" argument is a completely generalized guess.

This new system is okay. Doesn't make or break the game to me. I prefer the old way since you got an alert that the key was ready. But I don't make keys often enough to care on way or the other. Just seems like time wasted "fixing" something that wasn't broken.

I have one complaint. It should at least has a way to show when the cool down will be done.
