'Twas the night of the solstice and throughout the small town,
Star-gazers and adventurers celebrated and unwound;
The bonfire roared at the Center with flair,
Giving warmth and a light to all who stood there;
The revelers were cheering the racers instead,
Of sleeping quite soundly all snug in their beds,
And I with my Sparkling Starlight Fishing Pole,
Had just settled down to catch fish from a hole;
When out on the ice there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my perch to see what was the matter.
Away to the gates I flew like a flash,
I climbed up a tower, impulsive and brash.
The moon glistened off of the ice and the snow,
Revealing the hordes of the monsters below;
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a dark elf and fighter and hamster?! Oh dear.
And the dark elf sprang forward, twin swords flashing quick,
The fighter was shouting, “Let's give Evil a kick!”
More rapid than mimics, those monsters they came,
The dark elf kept smiling and then upped his game:
“Come! Wizards now! Clerics now! Come Warlocks scourge!
“Come Paladins! Come Ranger! Rogues all here converge!
“To the front of the lines, to the retaining wall!
“Now strike at them! Strike at them! Strike at them all!”
And into the battle the armies they flew,
With a shout and a roar – and a curse word or two.
Staunch figures them all, head to toe dressed for war,
And gave they a fight as I'd not seen before.
A flurry of blows and a flashing of spells,
Would soon send those things back to the Nine Hells.
With a wail and a cry, the hordes finally took flight,
And vanished completely off out of the light.
Drizzt spoke not a word, but went straight to his task,
Minsc readied to follow without having to ask.
They sprung to the chase, with adventurers in tow,
They went after those hordes through the ice and the snow.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he dashed out of sight-
"Happy Simril to all, and to all a good night."
