Depends on what your resources are.

Are you opening lockboxes? If so - do you have tradebars saved up from said lockboxes? If so - there is excellent gear available from the T-bar store.

If you aren't using keys to open lockboxes - focus on doing the lower level T1 dungeons and the skirmishes. Some of them will randomly drop fairly good armor pieces (up to level 450 gear in some cases).

Also focus on building up boons and artifacts. These will contribute to your overall IL, as will focusing on leveling/gearing up your favorite companion. A purple level companion (level 31 to 35) with good runestones and gear with high level (7 or above) enchants can add over 1000 to your IL.

There are purple level companions for sale on the AH for pretty cheap prices, so long as you aren't particularly picky about the exact kind of companion you want/need.

Buy rank 7 or 8 enchantments. Rank up your artifacts then start on your artifact-equipment then your enchants.

Get bonding runestones for your companion and put good gear on the company.

Get a collection of blue or better mounts with the insignia bonuses you want. Full the mounts with blue or better insignia.

This should get you to around 10k with only relic, guild company, or league's armor pieces. Then start hunting in chult for better pieces.

While I have played the game for years, armor (in my opinion) is not the "end all be all" of the game. I am going to assume you know about the Drow Armor available at the store in Mantol-Derith? If not you just need to fight a lot of demons in the Dread Ring and Well of Dragons to get the currency (demonic ichor).

Other than that, I have 8 characters on my account. Either convert AD to Zen or pay for Zen to get the extra character slots. Once you have multiple characters at level 70, every Monday run Arcane Reservoir, Red Wizards, and Protecting the Portal. These alone without the bonus AD, net 13,500 AD per character. Every week with little effort, I make 108,000 AD and if my characters invoke I get a bonus 50% (162K AD). Currently there is a back log (tis the season) in the ZAX, but 100,000 AD = 200 Zen per week and I toss it out and wait.

VIP costs 1000 Zen and the only method to get Trade Bars. The real good armors are sold there but you need about 250 TB to get all your items. You can expect to get 5 TB on average per lockbox. If you are lucky you will hit the jackpot. I don't like this method because I view it as gambling. Most of my characters wear Drow gear from the Underdark Campaign. There are some artifact items sold in the AH such as belts and capes. I keep an eye on what the current lockbox is dropping, players will sell unwanted stuff cheap in AH. I buy these up and resell them about 4 to 6 months later when the prices are up.

I put more stock into mounts, companions, weapons, artifacts, and enchantments. Also a good build for your class will help you greatly, more than shiny armor.

If you are interested in the Relic Gear, start the underdark campaign. You can earn 2 - 9 Protector's Seals for each Demonic HE you complete in Dread Ring, IWD, & WOD. The Demonic HE quest in each zone requires 3 completed HE's to finish, & will also contribute towards campaign completion in those zones. Depending on the time invested, you should be able to farm 1 piece of Relic Gear each week.

Full price of VIP is 1000 Zen. One should never pay full price. For the minimum, one should at least wait for the coupon and pay 850 Zen if one can't wait for further discount.
