[PC] What happened to first companion?

Hi. I've been playing for about a week, and love the game. I have three characters on my account, the newest being created Thursday, and the third , today. I noticed on the first two, right around the point in the game where you get your mount token, I got a companion token. It's not giving it to my newest toon. I'm already up to level 12, have my mount, but no companion. Is it a class restriction, or only available to your first two characters?

    You don't get the quest for your first companion until level 16.
