Laptop, hdmi, tv questions

Hello PC Land. I have a question or maybe a few in regards to setup using a laptop to tv connection.

When I play the game on my laptop at max settings it looks amazing. However, when I use the hdmi out to my 46" Sony Bravia 1080p tv it looks terrible. So my question is does anyone know how I can improve the picture quality on the tv I'm using as a monitor? I already tried expanding the screen and turning off the laptop display completely. The tv won't let me adjust sharpness because it's a "pc" connection. The image on the tv looks (soft?) no matter what settings I choose on my laptop or in the game itself. Does the picture look like this because the tv is scaling up the size of the laptops image? Any suggestions would be great. Not sure if my laptop specs are needed but here they are.

Intel Core i7 6700HQ, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960m (4GB GDDR5),
1TB 5.4k Hybrid HDD + 8G Cache [1TB 5400 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive + 8GB Embedded Flash Cache], Memory is 8GB, 1600MHz, DDR3L
Windows 10 64bit.

Thanks for any help.

When you set up the TV as secondary monitor (extended desktop) or just the primary (the laptop display disabled) make sure the resolution is set correctly, it should be 1920x1080. A lot of time the GPU doesn't recognize the TVs correctly and set the resolution lower.

In windows 10 you can just right click any empty spot at the desktop -> display settings, it's there.

Next in game check that it's either windowed maximized, or if fullscreen the resolution matches again (it's under options->display). Also look for resolution scale under display, it should be 1.0 and interface scale under interface, also 1.0. You can also try and play with the Anti Aliasing settings and see if it looks worse or better.

Those suggestions did improved the image. Thanks. Also, I found that when gaming on the laptop itself that it's using the nvidia but when sending the image through hdmi it was using some power saving intel default. I changed the default to use the nvidia and the picture looks a lot better. Along with the settings you suggested to look at the game doesn't look fuzzy anymore. It's not as crisp as the laptop display but it's playable. Thanks again.
