New player, few questions

qawsar324qawsar324 Member Posts: 3 Arc User
Hello there, I'm a fresh new player looking for some info.

I've decided to go OP, because it seems like it can dish out some damage, tank, and heal.

Loadouts is coming soon, and I was wondering if anyone can point me to some guides or give advice for a build that can primarily DPS and tank, or if there's a better suited class for me if I want to do both those things (with 2 loadouts if need be).

I recommend checking out Gathor's shadowknight build, it's on the 1-2 page of the Citadel forums.

It's a decent start. Power and crit are a big deal. I would go the protection path, and the one change I would make to the build is to change out the Bulwark options for Aura Gifts in group play. (You'd have to not take Purifying fire to get Aura Gifts in the light tree).

Healadins have some options as well, but prot is a bit easier to get a grip of to start with.
I'm a theorycrafter, that means I can answer fairly deep questions with scientific theory, mathematical proof, and some guessing. Ask me stuff!

Funny enough, I was looking at that, thanks for the advice on what I could change.

With loadouts coming, should I opt in for a tankier build, or do you think I should be fine with that?

    EDIT

Actually a little confused. Both these builds look similiar (same name even):

    https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/neverwinter#/discussion/1227654/gathornias-shadowknight-build-op-protection-debuff-focused/p1

    http://mmominds.com/2017/02/03/gathornias-shadowknight-build-op-protectiondps-focused-mod-10-5/

But one says its more DPS focused, while one is a straight up tank? They look the same to me, so I'm a little confused

    EDIT 2:

Well looks like one is older. So that explains that.

I've looking through the citadel forums, and it seems like a Devotion based paladin is better for dps, and can tank nearly everything. As far as builds go, any advice on that for a 2nd loadout?

I recommend Healadin, for your first. Second option should be Prot pally.

Most people make the misunderstanding that Healadins can tank everything, and that is not entirely true. We are limited to what we can tank because we don't have massive temp HP pools. For major tanking things like Orcus and things that hit harder (MSVA etc...) I recommend not having a healadin tank. Although that's not to say we CAN'T do it as @oggycz#5356 can attest to. It's just we would rather not because it is alot risker.

Tempadin/Shadowknight and a Healadin should work fine for your first 2 loadouts, if you need help contact me in game. I love helping out, and I know @rubytrue helps out where they can too!

Do you have any suggestions for healadin guides? I'm sure it'll be more useful for the leveling process as I probably won't be able to see stuff like Orcus anytime soon.

Personally, if you want to do DPS I think Draco/Slaapdaniel's build is awesome. Probably not realistic for a low level pally, but something to aspire to.

My build is based off of his but only 3.3k. I took a group of 2 to 2.5k members of my alliance through Kessels (no wipes) the other day and they did a total of 24 million damage. I did 48 million with my tank. So it can definitely DPS.

DevOPs really don't come into their own until you get the Burning Guidance/Healing Warmth boons; prior to that, it is probably best to go the ProtOP route as it is tankier and provides more damage via encounters. Once you get BG/HW, however, the equation changes completely and your damage in groups goes through the roof. On most DevOPs (Burnadins), 70% of your damage will come from Aura of Courage and BG/HW.

Now that we have loadouts, I plan on creating a ProtOP for solo content and keep my Burnadin for group content.

I'm going to be a new player on xbox one in october or before when i get my replacment system and i play rpg all the time but nothing that was D&D base so i am going to have no clue on what to do or what to play at the start but i have watched videos on certain ones like control wizard scrouge warlock hunter ranger but my play style is being defesive staying at a range and do dmg that way and not get killed. But i want to play a tank role but never have played it and would have no one to teach me the role so probably will be running solo on here all the time since most of my friends plays other games. But any helpful advice wil be welcomed and no jerks answering this please.

While not unusable (barring SW, which is bugs: the class), many will advise you that playing a defensive ranged style will cause you to lose a LARGE amount of damage output.

This is because the damage buffs in here massively increase damage output, but only occur within a small limited range. Thus buffers are most likely be standing right next to the boss (to give the tank + melee classes buffs).

As for tank related questions, I don't know much about tanking in other MMOs, but in here, you need to know which attacks to dodge, which you can absorb, positioning and guiding enemy attacks, and which mechanics you need to watch out for so you don't die. If this sounds familiar, then I guess you already know how to tank.

Between the two tank classes (Guardian Fighter and Oath of Protection Paladin), Tankadin is far simpler to play, build, and gear; it is probably the best class for a newcomer to NW.

That's why i'm asking to make sure what i need to do in this since i never done it before and as for attacks i have no cllue on what to dodge since this will be my first go round on nw but not going to tank off the start still figuring things out on whatto play but main classes i might play is control wizard or hunter ranger but may try cleric out not sure yet,

Well the choice between support and DPS is fairly clear. Support players like to help the team and are hard to kill whereas DPS enjoy burning through enemies.

Ranged classes are generally squishier but have a broader skillset whereas melee DPS tend to stick to one set and like to be in the middle of the fight.

HR is popular at the moment as they can do very good DPS - more popular than the CW. The DC is extremely welcome in pretty much all groups - they tend to want 2x DCs for most/all endgame content.

The Pally is unique in that it can switch from tank to healer at need. The Pally tank is about as immortal as things get in this game, provide good team buffs and have decent personal damage.

Well right now i need to test the classes to see which one i like the best and only roles i have done is troll and healer in dcuo but it is totally different then this game so got to learn all over again. But i heard some players goes both roles in the classes so not sure if that is good or not. Plus i switch games alot then staying on just one but it is going to be hard to learn when your by yourself all the time.

What platform are you on? Getting into a friendly guild is a good way to pick up advice and have people to do stuff with.

How can a guild earn your trust if you're not a member?

You are coming off as pretty high maintenance. Good luck.
