I can't find a dedicated “Suggestions” forum, so I thought I'd post this here.
Right now, players cannot voluntarily move while attacking, but some of our attacks move us involuntarily. My suggestion is that this be reversed. None of our attacks should include involuntary movement, and we should be able to voluntarily move while attacking.
Now, let me clarify that I think lunge attacks still have a place in the game. Moving is the reason people use lunge attacks, not an unwanted side effect. But adding a step forward as part of a melee attack just screws up our positioning. And, as it stands now, we have to stop attacking to if we want to fix that positioning.
Not being able to voluntarily move while attacking gives combat a herky-jerky, start-and-stop feel. Changing this would make combat feel much more fluid, even if movement speed were reduced while attacking.
I can honestly think of no reason for including involuntarily movement in attacks except as a sort of substitute for the lack of voluntarily movement. In that capacity, it's a very poor substitute.
It's perfectly alright to have enemy attacks that root us in place or move us somewhere we don't want to be, but our own attacks should not be doing the enemies' job for them.
