I ran the test a few weeks ago, this is what i did. Unequipped all my gear and bought the lowest level main hand i could find. I took off the guild power boon and changed to armor penn. This took care of the resistance ignored variable. I also ran this test in the middle of a respec to eliminate any boon variables(rampaging madness). I lowered all this so the data I collected were small numbers. Then to the stronghold target dummies...
Did 100 KF without DSA. Fairly simple here.
-68 non crits 999-1034
-32 crits 1969-2034
Then did 100 KF with DSA (1 orb). DSA>KF obviously
This is where I discovered what im calling a DSA crit. These DSA crits can crit on a normal hit, as well as stack with your regular crits. Its hard to explain, but if you saw the pages of data you would see the pattern. More or less you see these randomly huge numbers popping up. So.
-74 non crits
--52 non DSA crits 1050-1085
--22 DSA crits 1288-1790
-26 crits
--15 non DSA crits 2073-2140
--9 DSA crits 2290-2596
Please, I would love to have more data. I spent the better half of one night setting up and running this, and was not happy with the amount of data collected. Please duplicate and test for yourself(just keep in mind of all the variables).
All of these numbers are the range btw. Best way to display the limited data imo. I still have all the recorded data if you have any questions.
Enjoy.

Fire a blast of dark energy at your target, expending your collected Dark Spirals to increase the "damage" and Action Point gain.
Seems clear to me. This is why I went and tested it in the first place. I looked online and found no info about it. So at that point I assumed the damage bonus was so minimal to justify adding it to your rotation. I mean of all the builds I looked up, I only remember one that mentioned it, and it was saying to use DSA if your having trouble with ap gains.
*Sorry this is all backwards, this should be at the top of the first post. A few typo's/words missing. Thought I could edit my posts, guess not?
I've been doing this for months with good results.
Did a test by spamming DSA and essence defiler followed by KF on a level 73 dummy.
DSA crit 20x 2582,8 (not more not less)
DSA non crit 30 x 1396,1 (not more not less)
KF following DSA: crit 10331,2, non crit 5584,4 all of the time, no execptions.
ED crit and non crit all the same damage 100% all time
KF followed by ED: crit 10331,2, non crit 5584,4 all of the time, no execptions.
Can´t really follow your theory on preview, sorry.
Only the AP gain from DSA is better.
Dark Spiral aura and dark spiral charge together are near 3 times as much AP compared to Essence defiler, according to the damage/AP ratio.
A crit DSA at full charge will be a pretty good AP gain, the "more damage" is related to the ammount of Dark Spirals you got. There is no buff to any encounter following the numbers I got.
