Trans Lightning, Dread or Vorpal?

armadeonxarmadeonx Member Posts: 4,952 Arc User
With the changes to weapon enchantments, what do players now consider is the best weapon enchantment for the CW?

I'm currently using a Dread, having swapped from Vorpal a while back but I have a Lightning on another character that I could swap with. The changes haven't landed on XBox yet so I can't test the difference.

Lightning for AOE...Bile/Vorpal/Dread for Single Target seems to be the prevailing wisdom.

Sometimes, these forums do have an effect on AH pricing, whether good or bad.
    I aim to misbehave

Lightning is expensive cause it is that good on a properly built CW. Other classes as well (GWF) can clear the room very well with it. Cheaper to make your own.

I'm in doubt here. Really see no reason to up aoe damage. It would have to outperform dread significantly in single target to make the change worthwile.

Yeah the video of the new fbi fastest run (13:12) made the trans feytouched on xb1 go up by like 1m - 1,3m quite fast lol.

As for this topic, it will be interesting to see which enchant is bis with the changes, my guess is that it will be between trans dread and trans lightning, maybe the former will slighty outperform the later on single target, we'll see.

I'll have one of each so I don't need to worry about buying, but it'll be interesting to see which way it swings.

If you have each then you are set. Lightning for aoe and switch at boss fights.

I'm a rebel. I been enjoying my trans frost on my CW. Suits my needs well since I was building towards control and debuffing. Very nifty for spell twisting renegade who forgoes icy veins and loses out on that clutch moment control.

While that's objectively true, I doubt most of us will bother with it. It's a tedious thing to do. Especially on console where load times to get into inventory are slow, the speed you gain from killing the boss faster probably won't even outweigh the time it takes to switch the enchantment.

You've also got to figure in gold cost, which, for some of us is non-trivial.

So for those of us being lazy/cheap, the question becomes what's the best overall weapon enchantment for the entire dungeon? I've got a feeling the answer will still be dread, though I have no math to back that up.

I've got a lightning and plan on running it for the fun/something different reasons, but there's a good chance I switch back to dread eventually.

As has already been stated, Dread / Lightning for AoE; Vorpal / Bilethorn for single-target. Bonus points for switching them out when needed.

Not sure what the % difference between them all is, but I don't know if it's worth the current AD cost of jumping ship to pick up a lightning and/or bile.

Personally, I have a T Vorp, so that's what I'll be sticking with.
Is it less effective than a T Dread or Lightning for most content? Yep.
Is it worth the several million ADs to swap enchantments? Not in my books.

I don't have the Trans Lightning, but the Pure Lightning, which I plan to refine to the Trans this upcoming 2x RP. I am a Thaum SS CW, with Icy Veins. The Lightning AOE damage since the update is absolutely incredible for mob control. It causes significant damage that procs crit strikes, and in dungeons it performs as intended for a control focused CW. You freeze the mob, and the damage extends to the entire grouping. Running a eTOS with a lowbie group and a 4100GS SW, I did 190 million damage, the closest to that number was the SW who did about 40 million damage total. I have a 3900GS.

Even in boss fights, the lightning enchant helps to control the minions that tend to spawn while attacking the main boss.

Point, Click, Freeze, Damage (considerably), anything and everything. The update for Lightning makes it a powerful tool for AOE

I'm on PS4 and have been using Lightening on my CW, and my HR. It's awesome. Especially if you want mob control, dps.

Lightning sounds awesome. Dunno if I want to start building one for my fledgling cw or steal a dread from another character. Think it's worth selling 2 plaguefires lying around to fund it? Heard plaguefire was kind of meh after the enchantment change.
  • niadanniadan Member Posts: 1,635 Arc User
Yes...sell the plaguefire. Buy lightning. Upgrade to Trans.

Took the plunge, sold plaguefires, and bought enough enchantments needed to take it to transcendent. Currently rocking greater lightning at the moment, until I get enough refinement, and it's a blast. 2 chains at 50% is nice but I can't wait to try 3 chains at 100%.
