As my title says, here is a thought. Been running around 200 prophecy skirmishes during the last two weeks, yet, it I only got twice the most useless +5 ring that exists (fortress) while other people who by the looks of it (gamer score and item level) just bought and Xbox and started playing get a +5 critical ring.
After all most of the time I am the only 4K dps in there so without me they wouldn't even get silver, yet a chance at a free ring just for completing the skirmish. So back to my title, as it is somewhat of a team effort, why don't all five people in the skirmish or dungeon get the same ring rather than mindless rng.
Some players don't even participate at all and don't even get kicked out when you try to vote them.
And on another note, if that's not possible, why don't add ring choice packs. After all it's not easy to get a legendary ring.

Second I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on most of your post. Rng by its very nature Is Random. I don't know how many skirmishes I've run and never seen a +5 drop once. It's just the way the dice rolled for me. +5 rings are extremely uncommon otherwise everyone would have them and they wouldn't be worth anything. MMOs require grinding. It is easy to be envious of other players who have been lucky early but the fact is they're still missing something that they're looking for cursing RNG just like you.
Another thing is the assumption of item level. With all due respect assuming that being a 4k is the reson that the group got silver is nothing but elitist propaganda. I have completed Many throne runs with people under 3k and have received gold on about half of them. It is not your gear but how you use it that matters.
And finally about kicking. Most players now (myself included) will not kick anyone who is trying to help. However we are happy to kick freeloaders. Perhaps someone had to drop his controller because the kid was throwing up. Maby there was people who are from a guild that doesn't kick Guild mates. Thair are a number of possibilities for what I am fairly certain was a isolated incident.
Please understand I am not flaming you hear. Instead I am trying to provide a different point of view.

The value of +5 rings is mostly located in the fact thay are rare. The Buff that is applied will easily become obsolete as soon as +6 Rings come out ( I am speaking hypothetical I have no idea if or when they are planned). Chasing top-level equipment while nice to have, quickly becomes Obsolete in mmos. Rather than spending all of my limited game time chasing equipment that will have no value tomorrow I choose to play the game and enjoy my experience. Talking to Guild mates about how their day was interacting with them on a personal level that is where I get true enjoyment from this game not trying to obtain a number that will become obsolete with the next mod.
As for your last statement it reeks of the ignorance of Youth. I will put this in simple words: bigger or more is not always better. Where would you be in this game if you had nothing left to work for? I can answer that for you. You wouldn't be playing the game. you'd play something else.
In short I play Neverwinter to enjoy the experience, to relax, and most of all have fun. With those goals in mind I don't think I ever could be playing this game "wrong".
Let's take a step back and stop insulting each other please.
Secondly, you can't compare prophecy to throne, totally different skirmishes, totally different mechanics. Besides I was talking in general not just the skirmishes but also svardborg for example, it's a team effort, so as rare as the legendary rings are it should be a team reward.
As far as your comment about something happening in the background, well, firstly, if you are preoccupied with something else, don't play, secondly, it was the same player on two different occasions twice. Some maxed out player who didn't participate, looked for a corner and then hid. Anyway, I reported the whole team for unsportive behavior and blocked them. Better to avoid these kind of players.
Then, the rings are bis and account bound other legendary rings are even character bound, so there is no actual value other than being best in slot. As to my knowledge it was nonce said by neverwinter that it is a free to play game which means you either spend time or money to achieve the same thing. This statement however is not true anymore because money can't buy and grinding doesn't give bis.
Anyway, don't get me wrong I'm absolutely for a bit of rng, yes, it's part of the mmo but when it gets out of hand people will eventually throw in the towel as much as if they would have everything, that is according to you though. Players need to get rewarded for something they do. When all you see is other players grab the loot you want then this unrewarding feeling will make you turn away from the game, in my opinion.
Wow, so much text, ok. Your turn again
It occurs to me that we are all really after the same thing:an honest chance at awesome loot. Instead of being angry when we see somebody else get the rings that we covet perhaps we should be happy for them instead.
Part of the nature of this game is the grind. we are no stranger to that. our turn will come eventually the odds say so we just have to be patient. However I would not be opposed to seeing some kind of Fail-Safe put into the game. We have trade bars from lock boxes, perhaps some other kind of currency could drop from skirmishes and dungeons to ensure a plus five ring eventually? Or perhaps a token be placed into the loot tables that could be exchanged for your choice of plus five rings. They already have similar items in the game. Another idea, why not the ability to trade in two or three of the wrong kind of rings for one of the right kind? What do you think Firesidecat?
I would like a fail safe, hence I invited your comment, I would also like to even go a step further. If team loot is bot a thing, how about being able to craft the +5 rings?! I'm not talking about just crafting them with resources that can be found anywhere but resources from the specific skirmish and make it bound.
So what I am trying to say, in order to keep the "value" of the legendary rings, why not allow them to be crafted with an X amount of +4 rings of the same type. This way players who have ground it out have a chance to eventually get a legendary ring, the value is retained and the main aspect of a game which is rewarding those who continually play has been retained. After all, shouldn't a game be about rewarding those who put effort into it?
On topic, I'd just like the drop chance to be improved. I'm another person who's run hundreds of Underdark skirmishes over a long period of time and never had a +5 ring drop, let alone the right one.
