this is a beginners guide for hybrid build. It shows the new features that came in recent modes.
it will allow you to compete in PVP as well buffing decent in PVE.
Paragon path:For PVE Anointed Champion is better. Simply because AC buff correlate with GS.
Divine Oracle party buff powers do not scale with his GS. Bts gives same buff whether you have 2K or 4K GS, Same for HG, FF and DG.
DO may work great in PVP or pure DPS high GS builds. But not for the common DC PVE rule.
AA and BoB scale with your power. with mounts, companions and high stats it makes a big difference.
Righteous is good path to level up and do extra buffing in PVE. For PVP it’s not the most recommended but it can still works. Fire of the gods is very strong feat that equal to your weapon damage with modifiers for 15sec!
It’s easy 5k/sec in PVE even for a noob.
In PVP it might only reach few thousands. You need to put all 5 points into it. If you put less, with today mount bonuses, you will actually heal your opponent rather than doing damage.
Good paths for PVP/PVE righteous:

nwcalc.com/index.html#/dc?b=1oa5:k6rwk5:8dep:5tb7d,1li3314:1u0z000:1000000:1z00z0v&h=0&p=anc&o=0*if you think Astral fury don’t work put points into Righteous suffering . it proc great
FAITHFUL healer is easier. You can hardly go wrong in this path.
Keep in mind that in PVP there is Hugh power debut and healing depression.
So you can remove a few points from Gift of Haste to chaplains Strength or united by faith
For example:
nwcalc.com/index.html#/dc?b=1oa5:k6rwk5:8dep:5tb7d,1li3314:1u0w000:1z055n1:1000000&h=0&p=anc&o=0*ppl say that Temp HP does not take into account tenacity so I avoid Devine Intervention.
VIRTUOUS have weak T4, T5 and cap stone and is not a recommended.
When I prepare for PVP I start from right to left on the tabs.
Mounts:Mount system came recently and it works great, it cost nothing to change insignia or mount. And as far as I know all the bonuses works.
If you like neverwinter than purple mount is the first thing I who’d recommend spending Zen. purple mount have equip stat equal to +2000 and can be claimed on all your characters.
For PVP take Yeth Hound. It got 2 insignia bonus that are needed in PVP and it gives you +2000 deflect (=5%) that is very important.
PVP:
Use evasion insignia and Refuge or Vigor to fill control resist and stamina
Useful bonuses:
- Oppressor's Reprieve: Medium Snowswift Horse (4% HP HoT when attacked by control)
- Champion's Return: Neverwinter Champion's Charger (20% HP HoT when you go below 50% HP)
- Survivor's Blessing: Yeth hound, Medium Pharaoh Steed, Armored Ghost Horse (3% HP HoT when you deflect)
- Victim's Preservation: Yeth hound (10% HP HoT if you receive premitigated damage above 35% HP)
- Artificer's Persuasion: Tuigan Courser (mainly use it for the movement and recovery)
- Shepherd's Devotion: Sabino Destrier (bit weak because it’s hard to stack power in PVP but it’s still useful)
PVE:
Having 2 purple mounts is useful to switch the equip stat from deflect to something useful like recovery or power. (Apparatus of Gond, Apparatus of Kwalish etc.)
Use Prosperity, Skill, and Dominance insignia.
Useful bonuses:
- Protector's Camaraderie: Arkaiun Courser (12% more power when your companion attack)
- Magistrate's Patience: Buckskin Destrier (damage based on your power, doing low damage in PVP and should be avoided)
- Artificer's Persuasion: Tuigan Courser (10% of your power as recovery for 15 sec is a lot of AP gain, rest of the stat have strong diminishing return and will add around 1.5%)
- Assassin's Covenant: Apparatus of Gond (10% of your def and deflect turn to power)
*Barbarian's Revelry and Gladiator's Guile can be useful in both PVP and PVE if you like them
PVP
PVE
Companions:Companions effective only in PVE and can increase your power by big numbers. When considering a companion don’t think at PVP at all
Active bonus: To be honest I am bad in this one, I changed dozens of companion and I can’t say I made right decisions.
Rank of companion is not a factor for DC, green companion might be more effective for you then purple.
active bonus I like:
- Energon - 5% HP
- Flame/Ice sprite – 1% AP (can be maxed to 2% at purple)
- War dog – minus 6.5% threat
If you want to increase your damage check what other classes use (wild hunter, blink dog, Fire archon…)
Summoned companion:
This part is important. To understand the simple mechanics of companions you can look at the most common summoned companion now - Fire Archon.
- Fire Archon got 3 offence slots so if you put bonding it gives you power rather than defense. In PVE you don’t need a lot defensive stat.
- It got 2 ring slots, and it’s possible to get 2 slots rings with nice features (+5 rings have 2 offensive slots)
- it attack so it proc bonding and Protector's Camaraderie.
Chose a companion that attack, fast, got at least 2 attacking slots and you have good items for it (Cockatrice comes with 2 offensive and 2 ring slots for example) I use flame sprite cause it hit fast and I got equip for it.
BoonsOnly boon you can freely change is guild boon. And it’s very strong.
If you go righteous take the ArP. Faithfull can stay with power all the time
*there are many 12+ guilds that look for active players, joining guild is important for PVP
Boons I chose are PVP oriented:
Healing warmth, frozen reflection.
Elven Ferocity, elven resolve.
Shadowtouch, augment thayan bastion.
Avalanche.
Demonic endurance, Displace faith.
Gale of retribution.
Equip:Neverwinter try to force you to use different armors for some time, and in PVP its mandatory.
You have to get second armor set with tenacity. Good armor enchants are Elven battle or Negation.
For weapon enchant I use terror due to the strong power debuff, but frost, vorpal and dread should work as well.
Good artifact set is tiamat’s. currently I try Valhalla set and it works fine. I guess Black ice can work as well if you want extra ArP and piercing damage.
good artifact is Oghama and Wheel of elements.
Rings are easy to find and there are many types. +5 rings can have 2 def slots and this is good for PVP. For PVE you will prefer 2 offensive slots

PVE set
PVE play style:Class features: Hastening Light, Holy Fervor
Powers: I like BoH, DG and BtS.
In easy skirmish I might use chains / FF. in big HE I like searing light.
Daily: AA, HG
PVP play style: Class features: Divine fortune, Anointed Armor
Powers: BoH, AS, BtS, FF, DG, SB, Exaltation and Chains
Daily: HG, AA or Flame strike
HR: melee attacks are piercing damage = cannot be deflected or resist. You can’t do a lot beside dodge, heal and debuff, so use BoH and Bts. Divine astral shield might help as well. If there are several HR’s I slot BoH, DG and BtS.
HR got almost 100% deflect, 6 dodges, very fast, strong control powers and large AoE attacks. Due to the piercing damage they can focus a lot more on power. This put them on the top of the food chain now. you do not want to be in 1:1 situation with HR cause even 2.5K HR can be deadly. (in general as DC you are more effective in party then in 1:1)
Elven battle enchant helps a lot, cast regular BtS as soon as you can. Terror enchant helps.
You got to Heal, heal, heal and dodge. If he focus on you try to take him out of the nod. Try to make him as less effective as possible.
GF: high burst damage and strong control combinations. AS and exaltation help a lot, debuff as well. But overall you need to dodge the strong smashes and charges because they are very strong.
TR: Execution and smoke are very strong, execution can be one hit kill if the TR got 3.5K+ GS. courage breaker can be removed if you use Oghma Token after he cast his daily. Ring of vision help. watch out the first hit in combat excution.
GWF: can be very strong and very fast, but all your spells and def work on them. Astral shield, Exaltation, deflect and debuff should help you against them.
CW: used to be the nemesis of DC but others took it spot. They can hold a nod against 2 ppl and you shouldn’t try to 1:1 them. Elven battle enchant, Oghma Token, deflect and Control resist should help you against them.
SW: some are strong, but those are 4K+ at least. You need full protection all the time against them as they will melt you. AS and exaltation helps
OP: I am not sure
