Legendary Fishing Rod from Winter Festival.

weaver936weaver936 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 443 Arc User
Does the legendary Fishing Rod from Winter Festival work in Somi? The excuse for the epic one not working there was it wasn't for Deep Sea... but the Tooltip for the new rod says something about fishing treasures up from the Deep.

It's very important to add relevance to the Winter Festival beyond the Winter Festival... outside of just the stuff you get from Starlight Parcels..

Can we get some clarity on the use of this rod? I think it woulda been nice to do this upfront instead of having to be asked about it...

Also, how does the Campaign Currency thing work in this event.. i don't see much useful info available about it.

The treasures it's mentioning are currency for the campaign currency vendor in the winter festival event area.

There's a random chance to drop a Treasure of the North/Thay/Tiamat/Llewyrwood which you can trade for campaign currencies. The bait/lures seem to increase the drop rate (when I used a golden szorp I was getting a treasure on basically every cast) pretty drastically too. I farmed out a Linu's Favor in about 15 minutes so I can see some people powering their way through campaigns with it. Just wish they had added Arcane pages from ToD.

The legendary fishing rod from Winter festival does not work in Somi. It is only meant for the Winter festival.
It can be upgraded through the Simril festival profession from white to legendary and is used to fish for treasures or getting a better result in contests .

There is one more rod , and that rod can be only used for fishing in Somi. It is called : Enchanted Fishing Pole.
You can get it by opening maps and digging for treasures.

Everything else was already mentioned by urabask.

The best way to look at it is that the SoMI rods are for "Sportfishing", as it says on my basic SoMI rod, while the Winter Festival rods are for "Ice Fishing".

Two different sports, two different rods! :)

Look at it as Cryptic telling you that they own your inventory.
You bought it, but they use it.

They could have put any of the unique rods, any khyeks (they should replace those, not only add a 3 types of them to your inventory), black ice pick etc etc into the currency tab or another place, but they did choose to grab your inventory.
Their message for me reads like "suck it up, we own your inventory".
Of course, you could possibly discard the items. I dare you drop your epic khyek or fishing rod

They do "own" your inventory... and pretty much everything else, they just give you permission to use it! ;)

They do not own the stuff you buy, so all the loot within that bags is ours and not theirs.

I think the reason why the legendary fishing pole does not work in somi is because somi is still too deep for it. The legendary pole might pull treasures from a sea but a sea is clearly not as deep as an ocean. Also, the glowing lights attached to it, might drive the deep sea fish away. I don't think deep sea fish lurking and dwelling in the dark get too attracted by shiny glowing lights, as far as I know it symbolizes danger.

Yes, they do own the stuff you buy and have the right to revoke your access to that stuff any any time they desire for any, or no, reason they desire. Check the Terms of Service, specifically the Fees section as it applies to Zen. They grant you a license to use Zen and to unlock items in game, the Zen has no monetary value and PWE/Cryptic owns all IP related to the game, including your unlocked stuff.

The distinction here is that you are NOT paying money to unlock things, you are paying money to buy Zen, which itself is NOT money and can not be refunded. The purchased Zen can then be used to unlock things in game, yes, essentially you are purchasing the items, but that is not how the ToS defines these transactions for legal purposes.

Virtual goods in MMO's are not your property, they are essentially things you unlock and gain a right to use. That right can be revoked at any time. It's not like you can take your goods out of Neverwinter and move them to another game or anything. ;)

I guess Winter Festival is meant for First Timers and people with Alts. Not a bad thing... (like anything in game) we just gotta know it's fu

Agreed... basically we are RENTING or LEASING things in game :D.

You do own the stuff that you pay money for. Of course you do not own your character, else you could sue game developers once they ban you or once they have to shut down the game. However, the zen currency is yours once purchased and the game developers are not allowed to take your money but then refuse the access to your purchased ware. If they ban you, you no longer have access, so you have the right to get reimbursed. I know that in cases like this game developers won't give you your money back. Fortunately for me, Microsoft is in charge for this. A company which fully respects the consumer rights. If cryptic or any other game developing company ever refuses to grant me the access to the stuff I purchased, I'll make sure I'll get reimbursed.
It's the customer that wins out, not the other way around (at least in Europe).

The only Terms of Service I can find relate to the US and Non-EU countries, I can't seem to find the EU specific ToS online... however, for the US and Non-EU countries, you do not own anything you buy. Zen is not money, and can not be reimbursed as such, and the ToS explicitly states refunds will not occur if you are banned.

Does anyone have a link to the EU ToS by chance? It would be interesting to see what the differences between the two ToS's are! :)

What does Microsoft have to do with this? So far as I can tell Microsoft has nothing to do with PWE, Cryptic, or Neverwinter... why did you mention them?

I'm guessing he plays on Xbox?

We buy our Zen through Microsoft, and they will refund you if there is a reason for it, removing Coal wards was one such event, if you bought Zen during the last hour when they had the 40% sale advertised but not active, is another one.

If people want to, they will refund this last promotion as well, since it looks like the "Simril" helper doesn't give you more lights in the end...

Basically, MS has a lot better attitude towards their customers...

Oh yea, I completely forgot about the XBox and PS version of Neverwinter! Derp!

Good to know MS still has solid customer service! :)

Yes, I play on xbox. I'm not sure how it works on pc but if you buy zen via an external source like steam you should also get reimbursed.
  • samaka#2511 samaka Member Posts: 568 Arc User
Right, that makes sense as the Terms of Service being used in cases like the XBox or PS platforms is that of Microsoft of Sony instead of PWE directly. I believe there are also probably differences for EU players using PWE directly, but can't find an actual ToS for PWE for EU countries.
