i've recently got my crit up to pretty good levels and am thinking about respeccing back to tacos build. is this a viable build still for mod 10 or are other builds better for the upcoming changes?
I still don't get it, you lose far more than 10% Crit by going for Skirmisher's Gambit, especially as a Trapper. I tried it once and lost way too much from the Trapper Tree, also ran with Taco a few times and he out damaged me not by a huge amount (I was Longstrider him too) in a couple of games and I out damaged him in an EDemo run. Also his IL was 1k above mine.... Survivablity also sucks as after a few deaths in a PUG Epic Spider he left the Dungeon (I would have been way ahead on DPS on that run).
Anyhoo Taco's Build is good and effective, I just don't see the point in that Feat. Also the more Crit Severity you have the less of an impact it actually makes. As far as I remember there is a decline in the effectiveness the more you put in it.

It's the same for all of the secondary stats. With regards to Skirmisher's Gambit, if we were trading any other stat than Crit for Crit Sev it would be a no-brainer, but as Crit is what makes Crit Sev effective it's silly to trade the one for the other imo. I'm still baffled that they put Skirmisher's Gambit into the Combat tree and not Archery. Why someone would take that over Lucky Skirmisher is beyond me.

I've ran with it before. I noticed a marked improvement in my game. on xbox once i got my crit high enough.
I just got my crit high enough where I don't think the loss will be that noticeable. I'm up to 87-90 percent crit in combat now.
although I've always wondered if maybe there was a sweet spot in there somewhere like not taking all five but taking 2 or 3 points in gambit
I thought the diminishing returns was in an earlier build but was changed later. at least that's what I recall from my research on it last spring.
But I wasn't looking for a debate on a high crit build vs a non high crit build. I already know if it works for me.. but what I don't know is how it works with mod 10 and that is the helpful feedback I was looking for...

In that case we could find out in a few days
On another note, generally to get Skirmisher's Gambit you have to end up dropping Serpent's Bite from the Trapper Tree... That right there is another 10% Crit chance loss on the 1st attack in a rotation and 5% on the 2nd attack in the rotation. So as I mentioned there is way more than 10% Crit chance lost, you also need to lose another 5 points from the Trapper Tree so 15 in total.

I don't think the stacks from serpents bite is dependable or that serious since its not over all crit but from a couple encounters and depends on a rigid routine to get the benefit (I personally am not that reliable that way and focus on keeping MT up more than stacks). the crit sev is on everything you do and I'm pretty sure it ends up being much more significant than the stack bonus is.
I do think there might be a happy medium though in taking 2 or three points in aos and 2 or 3 points in gambit though. as far as losing other bits in the tree there are a couple mostly garbage bits in the trapper tree. I already slot the lifesteal feat in combat tree. fluid hunter is kind of meh but so are the things it's replacing. splitting serpents bite and skirmishers gambit might be a happy compromise.
I wouldn't use skirmishers gambit now that mod 10 hit xbox. I would go with lucky blades instead. 15% more damage after you crit. If you crit all the time, then it's always up. IMO that's better than serpents bite.
I have yet to test everything in the depth that I'd like to, but hopefully I'll get around to it. From the tests I have gotten to do, I'm seeing Trapper outperform combat in PvE.

Trapper should be. Not much has changed on that front. Combat got some minor love in Mod 10 but not nearly enough to match Trapper. I haven't gone full Crit build on Combat and I don't use Vorpal but even if I did, I don't see the results being much better than what I am currently achieving with 50% Crit chance.

Good to see you still around here Taco
With regards to Lucky Blades, I have tried a couple of Hybrid Trapper Builds that put 15 points into the Combat Tree for lucky Blades. Was interesting for a while.... What I noticed is that if you have a Trans Shadowclad equipped you get 100% uptime for Lucky Blades even out of combat... for some reason when the weird animation flashes on your character (for Shadowclad) it triggers Lucky Blades lol.

yeah I tried gambit it was a bitter failure. currently im running trapper, I have some points in archery. for a little extra crit chance in ranged but I haven't been able to test it anywhere yet.
Thanks man, I don't usually post a whole bunch in these forums, it's not super great at giving me notifications. I don't think that you need a shadowclad in order for Lucky blades to have 100% of time. The game still makes players deflect heals so even when you're out of combat you deflect your own regeneration. I think that's what's causing it.

Yipyip. When I'm standing around in Caer Konig, Lucky Blades is activating all the time, just like the old set bonus on the pvp sets did.

I can video it if you want?
Everytime Shadowclad makes that weird flashy/tick noise (seems completely at random) to signify you are wearing Shadowclad. Every single time you hear that flashy/tick noise you will see Lucky Blades appear on your character in Blue writing... every single time even when standing doing nothing and getting no heal numbers.
So it sounds like Lucky Blades is a bit broken anyway if you guys get it appearing when not wearing SC.

I think it's probably the case that the random deflects that HRs, particularly if you have the sharandar damage reflect on deflect boon, are prone to, is setting off both shadowclad, and lucky blades.
@wdj40 you don't need to do that I totally believe you. I'm just saying that the sc isn't necessary for lucky blades to proc all the time. Try taking the sc off and see if it's still proccing for you. As far as why that happens, that was just my speculation. At the end of the day, the result is the same regardless.
With the changes they made to our roots, is hard to say what the best thing to do is. Playstyle and preference aside, full Trapper may outperform a Trapper with lucky blades.

Very true, it appears to be cyclic. I notice it pops. I did not have an armor enchant slotted and it popped.
Hmmmm how weird then, whatever is causing a pop/tick for your Lucky Blades must be the same thing that causes the Shadowclad Enchant to pop/tick the animation on your armour. But when the sound/pop/tick happens for Shadowclad it does not increase your Defence or Deflect at all, just Lucky Blades seems to trigger at the same time. Seems very odd to me, I wonder what else triggers or ticks in the background all the time.
It even pop/ticks when I am running around on my mount.

My rotations are a little more complicated than I have just written lol... for instance skipping Slashers Mark so you get double stack of Melee AotS for Gushing Wound can be good in combat, or swapping Hindering Strike for Gushing to get 2 stacks of Melee AotS for Hindering Strike.
But it is extremely efficient for non-stop attacks... obviously when in combat some of these get changed around or skipped entirely. But the gist of it is that maximises every type of synergy I can get, including 40% Speed Boost from Aimed Shot in there as the Off-Hand boost is now actually very useful and good

got to play some known content with a pure trapper build. I'm not sure where people are getting the "it's not a nerf, it's a buff" thing. because I took a huge hit. I'd say some of it was just the gf nerf rubbing off on me but even without the gf as tank I still did better than I'm doing now. 2500 gwf are outdoing me or are neck in neck. I'm not all bis yet but still.. 3700 stats with very little fluff I should be stronger than that.
lol. good point about load outs. I'll play wiht that. I guess if you're pure trapper you're not tied to constricting arrow to get mt triggered. it seems to trigger every ten seconds without me doing anything outside of normal. I guess I'll have to do some experimenting.
I got bored with combat, since soloQ doesn't look like it's coming back anytime soon, and respecced back to trapper. Went on a cn run with my guild, admittedly with probably the highest damage dealing bis cw from crusaders, and a couple of gwfs, didn't really shine that much, the cw won by a mile, and the gwfs beat me by about 10 million on average.

Id run either Full SW Combat or Full SW Trapper. Both do great.
Other options would be the no-capstone Combat/Trapper Hybrid or Gambit/Lucky Trapper.
Played all of them, they work properly.
