Charecter veiwer

Sorry if this has already been discussed, I have seen the blog that the gateway is now gone for good but is it being replaced with anything else with more limited function?
Ideally I'd like to see it come back but maybe with out SCA to stop botters but even a basic charecter veiwer and mail function would be something. Something similar to what STO has maybe?

    Without actual information from the company, I find the assumptions of what was being botted interesting. Was it the AH? Was it SCA? Personally, with the complaints of rapid undercutting for the lowest sale price I'd think it was the AH myself.

    Thomas Foss stated on video, the Gateway cost too much money to operate. They told us botting and server lags too, but I still get lags and see bots. I think he spoke the truth when he said, the Gateway cost too much money to operate. No it won't be returning.

    From what I understand, everything that could be botted on the Gateway, was being botted. Professions, the AH, SCA, the exchange, all of it.

    I recently took the time to view the Thomas Foss video, 37:30 time mark, he states it was costing a lot of money. The first thing you mention is normally the most important. He "claims" players weren't playing it and the botters spoiled it. I have no way to confirm this speculation, other than what he says and how he said it. Being a crazy old lady with two psychiatrists gives one unique insight to human behavior, or maybe I am just crazy. You be the judge.

    But I didn't return here just to talk about the boy who cried botter. I have a handful of helpful items. There are users like @confusedpoof has put together an alternate item list here. I know we are in limbo about the Lightfoot Theif and Damaran Shepherd, but I have a list of free companions on the official NW wiki here. If you are new to the game, Arc Launcher still provides you the Renegade Illusionist at the Rewards Claims Agent. I have him for all six of my characters and placed Underdark Rings on them.

    I am not calling Mr. Foss a liar, just that I see the whole botter issue as a ploy to use them as the villains. They are villains but botters can be handled, by other means. I had my husband look at the video and he said, Foss is 100% correct about the greedy dice dungeon game on Gateway. Since the code was done in Java it would need a few programmers to translate it and add it to the client game. Since this would cost yet more money, I don't see the SCA dice game returning to Neverwinter.

    Nitpick: It wasn't done in Java, it was done in JavaScript (also known as ECMAScript). JavaScript and Java are entirely different and unrelated languages. They share some basic syntax, but then that syntax is also shared by C (++/#), Perl, and a number of other languages too.

    Java != JavaScript

    Regardless, it's correct that porting the game into the gameclient would require a complete rewrite so we're unlikely to ever see it again.

    On the other hand, JS developers are easier to come by. I bet they could open source the gateway, after making its APIs 100% read-only on the server, and we'd end up with a REALLY awesome and useful Gateway system.
