I'm with your leveling system. I truly like it. It just seems so "not Cryptic." Hopefully I'm wrong. I'm playing less and less these days. I'll stick around and maintain but I don't do the long sessions anymore. Just not fun.
Ya im with you man. Ive been looking at other games lately and nothing really grabs me... Even the upcoming games like Crowfall or Camelot Unchained arent going to be released for a while... Cryptic has always been fortunate that no other game has really come out recently to take their market share from NW... NW has the opportunity to solidify that with some positive changes in the game, but if they dont do those by the time one of these other games releases, they will lose the small remnant of players they have...
It just PAINS me to think of the gold mine this game COULD be or how amazing this game COULD be with some smart decisions... Seems like every module though, rather than saying "what do the players want" they ask "how can we make more money off the players we currently have"... Its really unfortunate the directions they have gone and havnt been listening to the player base nor learning off other games. Seems they look towards the asian MMO market for guidance where games are expected to be either immense grinds or P2W but its been proven those models DONT work here in the US well at all..
I think they have a great opportunity now, to do what the players have always been asking for - to split up PVE and PVP in the sense that the boons would be PVE progression and PVP can be a more simple version of your character. Once they have that done, it will be much easier to make some minor ability tweaks to characters without impacting PVE much, and then any future PVE content they make, they can scale with boons where as PVP will remain more "pure" and untouched with most of the power creep - which is what causes balance problems in PVP.
Then each module, instead of making two sets of gear and all this other HAMSTER, they can instead spend that DEV time tossing us another map or two. Or another TYPE of PVP like a 3v3 "slayer" or "elimination" match that they ALMOST released a few modules back. I actually tested it on owlbear when it was there and it was a ton of fun...
Stuff like that is where this game needs to go. Remove boons and all the power creep/gear gap issues from PVP - this doesnt impact PVE, impliment a PVP Level system, remove tenacity on gear, create a new 3v3 elimination mode and maybe 1-2 more maps. Then for PVE create some real DUNGEONS again and BOOM. You have yourself an amazing PVE and PVP MMO again.
They need to go back to thee successful formula that works in the pre-module days but frankly, I dont know how many DEVS are still around that were here back then...
After doing a dive with my alt troll account, i learned a bunch of BiS players from certain guilds who will be unhappy with the changes that @ayroux and myself had suggested . The only crystal clear info i got from them was this: they don't want the "power creep" removed at all not because they do enjoy stomping pugs, but because they're afraid to discover that they are not good pvp players at all... What kind of PvP players are these???? O_oUu
Lol ofcourse people will say no to it. They spent a lot of time, effort, energy, and money into the boons (as have I BTW and my guild is maxed SH boons, maxed SH, and I have all the boons minus the most recent module). So I am 100% there with ANYONE as far as what is "given up" but its the ONLY way to fix PVP.
When I talk to players and mention this idea, immediately the reaction is "NO, we worked hard!" but then you ask... ok, well whats YOUR solution then to fix PVP? All you get is silence and the same old stuff that is thrown around here:
Oh, a lobby system would help... solo Q and premade Qs will help blah blah.
The problem is, all these solutions dont address the WHY behind why PVP is failing. All is does is look at the current state and say "what would be more convenient in the current state". Then yeah... a lobby system to allow people to "inhouse better" is a GREAT addition, or for the player who hates getting smashed by an entire TEAM of 4k+ players might say "yeah give us solo Q!" but it still wont prevent a 4k player smashing them in the face... It doesnt help the new players, it doesnt fix PVP long term.
It needs to be addressed from the bottom up (from the new player UP TO the BIS players) not just "alleviating problems AT BIS level" - this is the funtamental difference in how players look at the game.
I am placing myself in a NEW players shoes. He goes into PVP, dies in 2-3 hits and says WTF man and never plays PVP again. Or a PVE players shoes, he gets 3k ilevel, thinks he is competative, maybe even has some tenacity gear.... goes into PVP and gets killed in 1 rotation from a BIS PVP player, says WTF man, and then never plays PVP again.
The CORE issue of PVP is the gear gap in relation to population size. This is the #1 problem and I keep saying it over and over. If this game had 1M users, the level of gear gap wouldnt be a problem because at ANY given time you would have hundreds of 4k+ ilevel players doing PVP. It isnt... And we dont... At any given time you may have 20 online, and most if not ALL those players are likely in the same guild, which is why they Que as a team, and never get matched and only face PUG groups.
Neverwinter can either increase population or decrease gear gap. That is the bottom line.
I predict this WONT happen though... They will listen to the cry of PUG players or BIS players who dont take the time to think about the "WHY" and Cryptic will create a lobby system, and a solo Q system and for maybe 2-3 months all will be "better" until doing inhouses agains the same 10 players everyday gets old, "practicing" for a match against other BIS players that will never happen because there are a small number of elite PVPers left in the game. Meanwhile solo 4K+ players will solo Q and PUG smash people into the ground... This will cause NO new players to want to PVP, cutting off any hope of growth of PVP players into the game, or the conversion of PVE players, which will lead to its death (pvp)....
Tonight i rage quit PVP again and if the coming Mod changes will be so bad as they seem, then out for me, i will play this game, but will have to find a decent game as my primary, where at least PVP works. It's enough, if it works only a bit, cause this one is dead meat.
30 matches lost again, 30(!!!), each time i have low IL and PUG team mates facing full premades. Situation is so bad, that sometimes even my opponents laugh with me about my bad "luck".
Q is definitely broken, cause lately i can't get into a normal team, just AD leeching PVE somewhats facing a premade.
Only good match i had was last weekend, when by miracle Gauntlgrym popped and i had made over 4K points and had a perfect kill to death/assist ratio, which is ME, the decent player, but at the end of the day, if someone looks at my current ranking i stick out twice, i have probably the best statistics paired with the worst ranking and why, cause since 30 (!!!) matches i just bore myself to death, caping twice and then over. Meh....but to fix this, there is no Dev time of course, night even in sight. Pfff....

Just create an open pvp zone where you can pvp anyone.

I hate paying taxes! Why must I pay thousands of dollars in taxes when everything I buy is taxed anyways!
Yes matchmaking is pretty bad at the moment. Fixing their queues would go a long way, but a lot of what needs to be fixed also involves class mechanics and gameplay mechanics like:
1. Combat HRs in the new mod nuff said...
2. TR first strike still overperforms.
3. Cleric Gift of Faith still overperforms.
4. Perma dodges should not be a thing. Stamina regen is currently at extreme levels which encourages spamming the Dodge with no consequences or thought to timing.
5. No diminishing returns on crowd control effects in PvP.
Just a short list there are lots of things I missed. They have a long way to go.
@ayroux sitting at a bar killing time and can't quote mobile.
Dude, goldmine for sure. There are so many people I know that are STILL in a holding pattern over this game.
I thought Black Desert would be the killer. Nope. It's a solid game that I am going to start revisiting again, but it doesn't have the NWO potential. It's just a differently angled game.
Most players I know desire "full-potential NWO" as opposed to the alternatives. Why can't these guys get it? It's friggin' maddenning.
@morenthar this is what I have been saying man... NW has such amazing potential as there has never been a game with a simple/clean but great layout on character abilities/combat. Its really one of a kind and Cryptic is literally sitting on a gold mine refusing to tap into it...
This game could literally have hundreds of thousands of users, if not millions, by doing the right kinds of things and NOT looking towards the asian market to get their "ques" on how to build the game.
Ive often thought about "what if" they had gone a different route.
What if, they went more a "diablo" route back instead of adding modules... Create a variable "range" on items that dropped, adding "monster power" system to the dungeons instead, so people could run "MP 10" level dungeons and get higher tiers of the same items... Rather than reinvent the wheel, you would have PVE die hards farming dungeons till their eyes bleed just to get an extra 1-2 stats on theri same chestpiece, but rolled higher...
More PVP Maps/Gametypes released way back THEN.
Now, any fixes are going to be to eliminate all the HAMSTER they have released into PVP - like the boons and mount bonuses - to make it a competitive battleground. If they dont strip out the boons and mount bonuses, PVP will never really work and NW will have only thousands, if not maybe a few ten thousand users.
They could still do all this.... but chances are they wont.

Bro i agree with all your words, it sums up all my feelings.
Today i came to the point, that i personally declared PVP DEAD, nothing to add.
My observations since my last post:
1. 2 guilds and their full premade dominate all PVP, they never walk alone, just in full premades, but sadly all in my playtime. These 2 guilds are sorry to say, but idiots, they don't get it, they kill off the remaining part of this community, but i guess at this point they don't care at all.
2. Since Gateway shutdown more bots. In the first days i have reported some, but since Customer Support is 100% useless and i saw the same bots over and over, i have stopped reporting.
3. Increasing number of exploits. Since Customer Support is ineffective in combating them and they are fully aware, they keep on cheating.
4. Q broken as HAMSTER.
My kind of team mates, and this is 90% the time.
Call them AD leeching trolls or whatever, but i see them always on my side, so the Q is surely broken and it's a pattern.
