pm not working

i was wondering if there was a way to fix the pm's i can pm others in game but cant recieve them unless they friend me first,i tried the /unhide my settings are set to visible to all still cant recieve pm's this is very annoying and trading ingame is very hard without being able to pm,and not everyone is inclined to friend u just to trade.
