There are not enough Deathlock Wights in the area to finish this quest in anything less than 30-40 minutes. Additionally, if you kill a deathlock wight that is already in combat with someone else, you do not get credit for the kill.

I assume you're talking about the IWD quest in Dwarven Valley?

This is a tough one, and you're right that the Deathclock Wights are a bit of a pain to find. They are in the southern part of the map, 1 next to each cairns (big stone monument things for a different quest) and 1 next to each pile of discarded weapons (also for a different quest).

You can also encounter some in the HEs that spawn in the area, but killing those doesn't count for quest completion.

As long as you do a minimum amount of damage (anecdotally, 5 hits or so should be enough even if the aren't for a lot) everyone who has been fighting the wight should get credit when it goes down. Is it possible it was during an HE that you didn't get credit, or maybe you just didn't get enough hits in?

Once I figured out where the wights spawn this quest quickly became much more bearable.
