what is the state of Temptation locks in mod 10?

Hey guys, I am new to the game and have been building a Temptation SW, currently 41. It seems like the class is getting completely changed around and was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on to where they stand in mod 10. Being new means reading up on the changes really doesn't help me out much as I am still learning the skills and mechanics. Thanks!

HB Temptation in Mod 10 is a buffing machine will Pillar of Power + Nine Hells feat from Damnation tree. Your heals will be garbage unless you can get your lifesteal up to at least around 30%. Because of this, HB Temp is more viable for higher items levels.

For PvE, Tempt before was the buffer/2ndary healer tree for SWs that had the lowest dps of the trees, but can support allies w/ moderate buffs/debuffs and strong ally-only incidental healing via its capstone (which can be good, but is also somewhat random and uncontrollable). They largely didn't change the tree itself, so those basic aspects of Tempt haven't really changed. Specific buffs to it I can recall are increasing Aura of Despair and Cruelty's range - which is nice, but not really anything substantial. Instead, the devs have promised to revamp Tempt further down the line (hopefully they follow through on that).

A new 'meta' is that Pillar of Power (PoP) from Hellbringer was greatly changed, and largely improved. Now its a short-cd area buff and debuff circle that doesn't explode when enemies walk into it and is no longer is 'aimed' on the ground (instead it spawns under you, with a very short cast time). The new PoP w/ the Power of Nine Hades feat in Damnation can also buff allies for 50% of the value it does to you. That means if ya wanna go all-in on the 'buffer SW' route for teams then you should prob go w/ HB + Temptation + 10 feats in Damnation for Power of the Nine Hades - slotting PoP, and possibly Vampiric Embrace (who's damage was buffed considerably) for the capstone feat's ally heal (though since PoP takes one of ur precious 3 encounter slots, VE can be skipped for other encounters, depending on ur priorities or the situation that ur in). Hand of Blight's melee debuff can also be thrown in there to lower enemy dmg, as could Dreadtheft for its debuffs on targets hit, etc.

you guys are freaking amazing... thanks for this. I'll definitely keep rocking the Temptation then. Will there be a free respec w/ the patch or do I need to purchase one? Thanks

The free respec should have already been given out as of the last hot-fix on the 17th (since they missed giving them out when mod 10 rolled out proper). If ya still don't have it avail in the powers menu, maybe try opening a ticket - though keep in mind that the free SW respec was only given to any SWs that were created before mod 10.

me SW is a week old and hasn't gotten it... I'll try a ticket. If not, no real deal buying a respec. Should get something anyways for that first time buyers pack.

The new 'Benign Order of the 3rd Eye' mini-campaign can also allow you to buy account-bound retraining tokens. I forgot exactly when it unlocks (think @ lvl 10; its pretty low), but Sergeant Knox will have it as a quest starter. Undertaking the campaign basically means that ya can get currency to buy stuff like retrain tokens (and a bard companion, which is pretty nice for new players), in exchange for completing the main quests in leveling zones and campaigns. It will also get you a one-time bag upgrade when completing the order's tasks.

That said, if ur really low level there's prob not a need to re-train anyways.

Temptation is the way to go. It takes some time to raise the stats you want but once you reach it you are a healing, debuffing, and buffing machine. Go soulbinder for the extra lifesteal, and the rest is cake.

Got to 60 today and so far loving the class. Can't wait for the changes.

Yes, Temptation parangon is now the ONLY (PvE competitive, probably PvP too) way to go for Scourge Warlocks (SW) ...
MOD10 SHAME ARCGAME DESTROYING A CLASS ! (SW)
MOD10 SHAME ARCGAME CREATING A GOD CLASS ! (GF)

For extra Life Steal (LS) go HellBringer (HB) not SoulBinder (SB) !
Thanks to class feature PrinceOfHell (it even add ResistanceIngored (RI) that's especially good for low level SW).

When you will reach the 60/70 floor, you will face the ugly self healing depression in PvE campaigns. Impacting twice as hard the SW class and Temptation even more.
You can ease this using the healing feature of SB "BorrowedTime" but it's actually bugged thanks to mod10. (SHAME you know who ...)
Wait it's debugged or go through this painfull mess directly as HB, because you will need (to be competitive) to become HB for middle/high end game content anyway.

Other ways to ease or reverse (SHAME ...) the self healing depression is getting a purple healer + mounts stable fully slotted with healing insignas bonus + campaigns healing boons.

After the ugly grinding of levels (60 to 70) and of base survivability statistics (20% LS 40% RI) reached (a good guild can solve both of that), you will need to be competitve in order to not be useless to your teams, there is one found way (before there was none) is as stated before using HB parangon + PillarOfPower (PoP) + 10 feats in Damnation for PowerOfTheNineHades (9h3ll).

When base survivability statistics is reached you can change your companion to a stricker with bonding runestones (as every other classes ...), but keep your healer close if it had party healing when you go low level in hard dungeons ...


For mounts equip power (if you can afford it), it depend on your build lacking statistics. Otherwise go for the look

PLEASE SHAMLESS ARCGAME, DO NOT REWORK SCROUGE WARLOCK TEMPTATION !
Because NOT working on it during mod10 actually made a viable way for HB.
( But you can add visual color change to distinguish parangons, purple/pink (instead of ugly green) for Temptation will be great )

Is there any recent temptation guide out there? Ik only keep Finding damnation or fury guides. I would like to know what stats i should be aiming for. What gear to look for etc

Cuz I'm too starting to be pissed by BiS dps build only, that is ridiculous (as is concern a minor percentage) and deviant (as beeing BiS or focusing only on dps is not often a sane goal).

So I'll post something for low/mid level temptation builds, just give me a week (a big one) to finish testing and writing it.

Since mod 6, after life steal have been reworked. Temptation warlock where considered worthless class.

Anyways, I play with Hellbringer temptation warlock. And I could say, its fun, its really fun class to play. But when comes dps, its not shining one. But that what u should expect. If u are support build, u should not be top striker..

Feats:

As for encounters, daily powers, class features and at wills, well its depend of situation, plus my warlock is old, so I have over 80 power points. So I can max up more encounters, daily power, class features and at wills than new warlocks...
Plus I use tank type companion.

So
For non epic dungeons,

Daily powers: gate of hell + accursed souls.

Encounters: BoVa + PoP + x
x= optional, depend of situation.
Can be DT for over all
Arm of hadar for aoe dps + cc
Hadar grasp - single target CC + dps + debuff,
Vampiric embrace - if enemies are really hard and u get in middle of Heroic encounter..
Fiery bolt - trash cleaning tool.

Class features: Not Pity no mercy + x
x= optional by situation.
can be Prince of hell - boost up arp + life steal chances.
Flame of empowerment - for more hellish rebuke using and trash cleaning
all consuming curse - over all dps boost.

Daily powers: Tyrannical Curse + accursed souls.
(TC still is top dps tool in epic dungeons) And accursed soul is more less panic button which u use when you have less than 30% Hp and u are surrounded by group of mobs..

Hadar grasp for boss or strong monsters. Combination with TC + HG + BoVa + PoP is big dps over all.
Hadar grasp - if u have solid tank, u can assist everyone with extra aoe CC.
Vampiric embrace - if your party healer is sucker.

Class feature: No Pity no mercy + prince of hell >for over all dps + life steal<



If fight strong boss in range. Change BoVa to Warlock bargain. or DT. and price of hell change to flame of empowerment..
Such combo boost single target dps performance.

The tactic is simple, tank takes agro and u dash to group of enemies, drop PoP > BoVa + x.
In epic dungeons I recommend use Arm of hadar instead fiery bolt. Because its not like u will kill them all with 1 or 2 hits anyways. Better CC enemies and don't let them hit you many times.

When comes strong close range bosses as orcus.. Better stay in range and buff party members with PoP.
THen use warlock bargain, + Hadar grasp + PoP.

Anyways,, if I get some free time, I will write more detailed my Temptation HB build. With all feats,boons and gear..
Which I consider available for mainstream players. Not like top end gear ones..

i have garbage damage since my sw is 2k no enchants but does its job with lifesteal boon + some feats go up to 50% lifesteal chance. BUT at least the damnation feat and little power from dark revelry doing something+heals.

very good advices. i am surprised my alt sw can equal my alt cleric on the heals.

Why are you surprised ?
SW temptation heal score should be 20% to 80% better than a heal DC (same level).
The reason is temptation heal isn't as usefull as DC's heals.

I would so love to see a full guide for this! I am pretty new to this game but temp warlock called to me right away (level 61 now)
