Substituting my DC's DPS with companion DPS

Hi all,

I want to spec out of Righteous into Faithful (maybe Virtuous), but am concerned about the loss of DPS. I have heard that a shadow demon is a good DPS companion. Hence, I am considering getting a shadow demon (would be uncommon level obviously), going into a healer tree and hoping that I will still be able to complete Sharandar, IWD, WoD and ToD. I have completed Dread Ring and EE.

The companion is expensive on the AH so I welcome your thoughts, or experiences with Healing trees and companions (not just shadow demon), especially around my own item level.

I am currently just over 2,500 ilevel, DO Righteous.

    Stay righteous and get a good tank/heal pet. Going virtuous or faithful will be hard for u to complete those zone or campaign.

    The loss of DPS will be visible and may be revelant (it depends on your equipment, stats, boons, etcs). The shadow demon helps a lot: you should be able to complete the daily task with no problem, but slower. Afaik, no other companion has the same level of damages.
    I suggest to test your ideas playing on the preview server so you can check how they works.

    Shadow Demon does crazy damage, especially for a debuff dc but for heal dc your damage buff/debuff for him will be a bit more limited. Here is a video of a tr with a Shadow Demon. The TR isn't fighting and you can see how the shadow demon can kill with him (it's obviously faster if you help). What you can see is the shadow demon can solo mobs. Obviously your result will differ based on gear, companion lvl etc.

    OK thanks, trying out on the preview server is a good idea. But I thought the AH does not work on preview? So I should buy it on live without binding it, transfer it to preview to play with it, and resell it on live if I do not want to keep it?

    PS: have u tried the shadow demon yourself?

    Thanks for the vid! The demon's level seems to be rare (blue). I am guessing that he can still be buffed by empowered BtS if a healer DC uses him, in spite of not getting righteous buffs? I also have no worthy companion equipment to talk of at the moment (high level runestones etc)...

    You can buff him by sharing power with him with AA, weapons of light, etc. He enjoys the benefits of debuffs also like PoD. Divine glow also buffs him. etc. From a buff/debuff standpoint he's no different than a party member.

    As for preview if you have a friend with an unbound one, he can copy the character to preview and send it to you to try (zero cost). That's how people have so much stuff on preview, gifts from friends. It's also why some people get bored, they are BiS on preview :p

    Lol! The dangers of getting too much for free! :p OK, I will see if anyone in my alliance happens to have one on preview to try it out. It seems though from your vid as if the demon may be a good companion for any DC-tree chosen; Righteous just will increase his DPS clearing mobs even faster - doesn't sound too bad!

    Yes, I have
    both as a virtuous and as a righteous.
    The only difference is...yourself. As said, the companion behaves as a party member: moving from righteous to virtous/faithful changes the efficency of the companion accordingly (in few words less buffs).
    Anyhow, the shadow demon is a great helping hand.

    He's also real handy in open world pvp for an active pet. Heaven help the people who aren't smart enough to take down your pet before you. *makes farming black ice a lot less painful
