Returning player with 2 questions, Anyone care to update me?

Hello everyone, I played neverwinter consistently since early open beta until I finally decided to give the game a break with the launch of mod 5.

I started playing this game back in the beta and this game was one of the best MMOs I have played in recent memories, that was up to the launch of mod 3, that when I got sick of the dailies, every module brings out new dailies and their became a time when all I was doing was dailies trying to catch with my other characters, I figured if the dev's don't find a solution to that then I will never really enjoy the game, doing tedious chores on multiple characters wasn't what I signed up for.
And since I took the break I have discovered that the devs have launched 9 modules in total.

I just learmed the game is coming out for ps4, I would like to get back in as the game was fun, and I have a feeling they could make it fun again.

So my first question is this, Are all the newers modules mod 6 and up full of dailies as well? If so have they atleast redesign the structure to be more user friendly? Because if not I feel bad for new.

At the launch of mod 5 the game became more of a chore than a hobby, and that due to the introduction of a couple gameplay mechanics.

The first of this mechanic was the introduction of artifacts, and refinin points, this was a huge problem with both casual, f2p, and p2p players.

The mechanic was greatly unfair in my opinion, it cost a whole lot of money, or farming to get any significant benefit from them, and them being bound on chat was a big kick in the squirrel.
Then they became even more frustrating with the introduction of mod 5 artifacts gear, this is where it all went down hill.
After spending countless hours farming rp I still couldn't get my artifacts to impressive levels, and I figured it would still take more than a year to get them to legendary even if I farmed 8 hours a day, so as you may already know it was a bummer when they introduced the MH,OF, belt, and cloak artifacts all at the same time.

From that point on I figured the game wasn't for me, not because I didn't want to put in the work to farm, but because I had 2 other characters that have yet at the time had no artifacts equipment's yet.

So I figured I would take a break rather than spend hours resenting my game time, so I took a break hoping that maybe in the future they would look into it, and might make some user friendly changes.

So my 2nd questions is have they reworked the artifacts equipment's, have the made it so that it a little bit fair for both f2p player's and pw2, and occasional p2wiiners?

TL:DR
Took a break from the game after realizing it was becoming painfully unfair, thinking about returning back for the ps4s launch, however would like to know the current situation of those2 mechnics.

Please someone let me know if they have worked on them or at least improve them.
If they haven't improve them then I will have to continue sitting.
2 question's are, are the modules still full of dailies? And since there are more artifacts gear and equipments have they reworked the system?

Thanks for anyone who can answer.

Mod edit, let's keep things appropriate, thanks.

    1) Are the modules still full of dailies?

Unfortunately, yes. Most of the campaigns (which you want to do for boons and keys) rely on daily quests for currency. However, many of the quests have been accelerated and in a few months time you can complete most campaigns and stop doing the daily quests.

    2) Have they reworked artis and arti weps?

Kind of. They introduced some variety with different wep sets (Burning, Drowned, and Twisted are all viable for multiple builds). They nerfed belt-neck-arti sets so folks are mixing and matching on some classes.

They also introduced a lot of in-between content that gets you from 60-70. Some of it is recycled, but some of it is new. It's enough to get you to 70 without having to grind too much.

That said, end game is still pretty repetitive at cap. It's clear that some of the end-game content is more rewarding, leading to the same few dungeons / skrims being favored. However, if you have a good guild or join a few cool channels, you can find enough variety to keep things fresh on a daily basis while you inch your way to that next refining goal.

I run a guild focused on new and returning players. We have a very active group that is really enjoying the game.

I agree with dupek's comments. The developers realized that modules after 3ish didn't work out well and drove players away, especially module 6 because it was a massive grind. There has been a change in leadership for the development team. They have slowly but surely been bringing the game back to the impressive MMO it was at launch. There are still artifacts of the "middle modules", but much has been improved and I have every reason to believe things will continue in the direction they have been going. Tier 3 dungeons are due out in August. There is also a systematic class re-balancing in the works, hopefully far better than the reactive OP/nerf overreaction cycles we saw earlier.

Come, give it a try. Stay if it's fun.

Thank you very much for that detail response! I appreciate you took the time to explain everything thing. Thank you.

Based of that answer, it seems I would have to either pass, or play the game just casually not caring about artifacts and all those fancy stuffs.

But another concern is that would I be able to play the game thus casually and be even be allowed to enjoy or would game mechanics just punish me harder?
I don't know the current state of the game on pc but i know pre-mode 3 it was possible and very doable.

I enjoy running dungeons the most out of everything, without all the fancy stuffs would I be able to enter any without being at a ridiculous disadvantages

You can enjoy most everything in PVE without working too hard at your gear. The game is designed to be casual friendly. You'll probably have trouble defeating Tiamat without a good group to queue with (good guild or the NW_Legit_Community channel for example), and you won't be able to queue for the epic version of Demogorgon without working on your gear (but there is a normal version of Demogorgon, so you still get the basic experience with lesser gear).

If you like the game itself, the story, the combat system, the people you meet in game then just come and give it a try. Look for a supportive guild and consider joining NW_Legit_Community to find a whole bunch of supportive people.

If those problems were deal breakers for you in the past, then I wouldn't expect much to be different.

I'll say this though. I started the game a few months ago. Happily leveled through the PVE content. Felt like I hit a brick wall when I reached the campaigns, but I kept going.

Here are some tricks I learned along the way to make the chores more manageable.

---- prioritize EVERYTHING based on cost ( time ) per reward ( boons, stats, etc. ). Do what you can get done in the least amount of time first, and focus on the stats you need. This takes planning.

For campaigns, you will complete Elemental Evil while leveling, and have the option to progress on Tiamat at a lower level. I chose not to do Tianat because of the lockout tuners and barriers for progression. Read more about how I got around that in shortcuts, below.

My path was to complete Dwarven Kings ( as it takes a while ) and start progression into underdark and maze engine. At the same time I worked on Sharandar and Dread Ring because of the boons.

If you get yourself into a routine, it becomes much easier to manage.

---- Shortcuts. The game is going to ask you to do a TON of idiotic, pointless things. DONT DO THEM. The payoff for running around collecting 50k black ice just for minor stat boosts is NOT WORTH IT. Instead, make as much reasonable progress as you can, and supplement your progress with genies gifts tokens ( can be exchanged for campaign currency ). Not all campaigns can be completed this way, but you can make a ton of progress if you use them wisely. Especially on TOD and more so on IWD.

    ---- GEAR AND REFINEMENT ----

During your elemental evil campaign, the campaign itself will continuously reward you with items that can be huge upgrades for you, even at blue level. Do not spend money on items at this point, as everything will change once you're 70. You will get your first artifact weapons upon completing this.

At this point you want to aim to have all refineable items between blue and epic levels.

    - Join groups for elemental seals for the first set and run dungeons like elol, and kessel's. After getting most of that set, move onto farming protectors seals. My best experience running these has been from Etos ( temple of spider ). You have several chance at epic drops and acquire seals ( currency ) for upgrades. Avoid ECC like the plague. Just don't do it at this point.

From there you will have two artifact weapons ( main / offhand ) and hopefully all purple quality gear.

For activating artifacts, make sure to pickup your class seal after level 60. And do the lower level artifact introduction quest. I got a free lantern of revelation which I still use.

    ****** REFINING *****
This is where HAMSTER gets rough.

My progress went as follows: weapons to epic, activating artifacts to epic, belt and necklace to epic. Once double refinement came alone, I went for legendary and mythic, but note that this takes a lot of pre planning.

Get your all enchantments up to atleast rank 9, before going higher on any single enchant.

*** look for unconventional options for RP. Fir instance the shattered belts/weapons/necklaces that drop in CN can usually be purchased for less than a resonance stone but yield more RP return.

    !!!!MAJOR TIPS!!!!!

    - buying zen and trading it for AD is most often a cad return on investment.

    - avoid buying items from the zen shop that are not account wide unlocks, other than one off items and consumables.

    - an epic mount purchase with the right star bonus AND a good coupon is a great buy. Power, I believe is the stat with the least dimensioning return

    - if you do but zen, reinvest it. Wait fir a coupon and then buy the discounted item and resale on the AH. Companions are GREAT for this because with the right coupon you can often sell for more than you buy, PLUS make 150+k on the bonding stone that comes with it.

    - the baphomets package was costly for me, but the companion bonus puts me at a better vantage point in higher geared groups.( up to + 20% crit )

----- ADVICE I MIGHT GET FLAMED FOR ----

As a control wizard. I completed the drowned artifact quests immediately after elemental evil. It will require you to basically kill the same stupid crab ( on a spawn tuner ) one hundred times. I knocked this out in about six hours of drill instruction level zone chat herding tons of unorganized players, so don't expect to do it in any reasonable amount of time.

There are other variations with different perks, but because of its popularity, and that you need a mob of people to complete it - the drowned quests were the easiest.

In my opinion the elemental evil quest rewards are far superior when measured as cost vs reward. Do not waste your life map hopping for days to kill a crab. Eventually, if you wanted to, a lockbox is Always on the AH for 409-600k that contains your choice of artifact set.

IF YOU ARE A DPS CLASS - I recommend forgoing the quest mentioned above and focusing on obtaining your twisted weapon sets from underdark. These are a substantial DPS boost. However can take time to acquire.

*** shortcut, don't use your faerZress to create demonic keys. Save it for boon progress. INSTEAD convert AD to astral diamonds and purchase legendary dragon keys from the zen store. ( about 150k right now - 300 b/c you'll need two sets. ). ONLY OPEN CHEATS ON GOLD RUNS

** shortcut #2 DO NOT WASTE ICHOR ON EQUIOMENT UPGRADES. there is a weekly Cap to how much can be earned and you will need 1600 total for the set. If you really want some drow craft, just buy the trousers and shirt off the AH ( though I think that's pointless too ).

    *** companions ***
General consensus is that you get more from an augment than you do from bonding, until you can afford atleast R10's and above.

Cheap augments - the cat, several ion stones.

Best bonders - shadow demon, zhen warlock, light foot thief, paranoid delusion. I use priestess of moonbow sehanine for insane crit scaling.

Last advice. Find a guild. Immediately.
The right guild will a) have a long list of active players, b) connected to likewise alliances, c) actively help gear up their recruits and b) but be HAMSTER bags or tolerate them. Oh!!! And provide you with boons that in some cases can add tremendously to your characters stats. ( think free 8k power (

I have been waiting for days to get my forum account to the level to be able to create thread, but it still is not so I found this post a good one to post my questions. Hope you can help as I see you are experienced, or well anyone reading it :)

1)Me and two friends are thinking on playing NWO, I already knew the game and played a bit at launch, but not much. It is almost entirely a new game content wise for me and my friends. I have read a lot about people who think it is pw2 now, people that hate this or that etc, i am fine with how the system is now and I don't consider easing the grind p2w. BUT my question is, if I decide to invest lets say 15$ a month in zen, once I reach the point (max level?) where the real grind starts, will that 15$ be enough to easy the grind and have a nice and enjoyable game experience? or even with that you still need to pay even more? And then, what is better to spend 15$ a month or to buy the monthly subscription (both is not an option for me)?

    2) Regarding the coming release on PS4, are graphics the same on PC as in consoles (xboxone or ps4)? I just saw some streamings and I did not find any difference but i don't know what the general opinion on this is

    3) About the Foundry, I have been reading and I am not still sure if it is available, if they shut it down, if they plan to support it? And on consoles?

    thanks in advance

    Can't comment on PS4 graphics,
    But, welcome bacK!

    - only available via cash shop in increments of $10. (may be diff on P4)

    - technically you could sink hundreds of dollars into zen ( I have ) and still not be 100% it was cost effective. A lot of the prices for things are out dated, and there is a decent amount of zen merchandise that is absolutely useless.

    - some people will suggest you use that $ to buy VIP. As a lower tier ( 3 ) vip myself, I'm not sure it is worth it anymore. The argument is that it pays for itself, but in most cases you're barely looking at a 40-60% ROI over a months period, which you can do much better than.

    - leveling up there were a series of coupons I recieved. Such as an epic mount at 50% off. Look for things like this before buying. Or look at upcoming sales schedules.

    - eventually ( at level 70 ) I barely need to supplement my AD with zen, but find that paying 500k for 1k zen is easier to swallow than 10$.

Here's a bit of a shopping guide for you.

    ------ Good Buys. -----
    - EPIC mount: you'll get around much faster, have access to great insignia bonuses, and be able to use a mount equipment power ( such as 2,000 power ). These are reclaim able on all chars.

    - EXP booster: once you go this route you likely will never try to level without again. Sure, it is easy to level in this game. But once you hit end game it's a whole different world.

    - "some" of the booster sets. A lot of people get the warlock set for the companion. I have the baphomets set, for the companion, which can be a major upgrade. ( she has an aoe buff that grants % crit at half her level )

----- things to buy and resell on AH ----

    - anytime you get a coupon for a companion, you can usually flip a good profit between selling the companion and the bonding stone they come with.

    - green wards - always able to resell them. Not as high of a profit margin unless you get a great deal.

    - I've heard of some people buying and reselling some of the strongbox contents, but can't comment cause I'm not familiar

----- absolutely DO NOT BUY ----
    - coal wards ( usually cheaper on AH )
    - ghost companion. HAMSTER!!!
    - campaign completion tokens!!! Never if you want to skip them, it's MUCH cheaper to buy genies gifts and other components in game
    - racial packs. None of that HAMSTER is worth sixty dollars. But I believe the dragons are 20. Not bad if you're set on it.
    - profession booster sets. Outdated and useless
    - the pants / shirt combo with experience bonus. No gem slots, and there are better options.
    - NEVER BUY BLOOD RUBIES.
    - most non-account wide items. Pretty unethical in my opinion.

Last comment was pretty long but I wanted to leave you with some advice on getting started and maximizing your return for what you buy with cash.

    About 1k ( 10 USD ) converts to between 480-500k AD.

These items are great to buy with AD

    Equipment:
    - ensorcled weapons ( off hand / main hand, will raise stats as you level and take you to 70, also have gem And enchantment slots )
    - ensorcled cloak ( awesome cloak with offense slot )

    Companions:
Go for a cheap as you can find augment for now. The cat seems to be the cheapest. Do not but this from the wonderius bazaar, even during the frequent sales, it's generally cheaper on the AH )

    enchantments
R7 enchants and runestones. Tailor these to match your needs, buylt invest in dragon hoard enchantments AS SOON as you can wear utility slot items. ( they give you refinement point items )

    Weapon enchants
Incredibly useful and available from the start with the ensorcled weapons. I've heard some people start their Alts off with bronze wood, but I've never tested it. They are pretty cheap at low level, but familiarize yourself with prices before buying anything. Good DPS buys are Dread, and Vorpal. Don't buy anything with a cool down ( such as feytouched ) until you can afford the versions with 100% up time. Good news is enchants are obvi not bind on equip, so try some out and see what works then trade or resell.

    Mount
Those mount active bonuses go a LONNNNG way. If you can afford the initial purchase, I would recommend getting one of these after you've bought some of the items above.

As per spending 10-20 a month on the game, just make sure you are reinvesting it. There is not a lot you will need end-game that can be bought for the exchange rate of 1 or 2k zen to AD. ( usually less than a million AD ).

Additionally, there is a spider mount with an insignia bonus similar to dragons hoard. I do not know if the zen version is account wide, but I bought mine from wonderius bazaar during a big sale. DEFINATE BUY

Best way to make money is knowing the market. REINVEST that zen you buy after your initial setup. THAT is how you to endgame.

One last thing, you'll eventually have to worry about refinement points, as I briefly mentioned. Familiarize yourself with the artifacts available and set a goal for the items you want. Level what you can up to epic level ( purple ), and prioritize that based on weapons > weapon enchant ( to perfect ) > worn artficats > item artifacts. That seemed to work out the best for me as per return on investment. Afterwards, focus on getting your enchants to atleast R9.

Hope this helps you avoid some of my mistakes.

Thanks for all the information to everybody. I think it will help me once I decide to return and invest in the game, but now most of the things you mention are unknown to me: RP, insignias, artifacts, ensorcled...

I was trying to get the idea if you think on me as a returning player that returns to the game, invest and stay in the game and reach max level, what is better at that point? Spend 20$ a month or pay the subscription? And which ever the answer is from the two, is that ENOUGH to stay competitive pve AND pvp wise? 20$ a month regularly?

On the other hand, I prefer playing the PC version but it is an older and stablished server compared to the new ps4 one, so do you think with regular playtime each week and 20$ a month it is viable to catch up pve and pvp wise in a reasonable time? By catch up I don't mean being the very best of the server, just be a good player and competitive

    @treyu86

It 100% depends on how you spend that money. With careful planning, absolutely. It may take you a while to get to a place where you feel competitive, but the important part will be to snowball that cash into larger rewards.

The subscription will not really get you anything immediately. Higher VIP levels have "ok" rewards, most notably no posting fees on the AH. But it will be a while before you're selling anything that will have any significant fees anyway.

I would advise strongly against using half of your initial investment for the VIP. Because you won't really see a return on that in any short amount of time.

Instead, use 10$ to transfer to AD and purchase items like those that I listed to help get you started. Use the other 10$ to get the exp booster to 60.

VIP is "nice to have" but the chances of getting anything worthwhile are literally abysmal.

Ok, thanks for the answer, really appreciated. i will give the game a serious try then if playing some months and spending some monthly cash can make me reach a competitive point.

About the foundry, is it active again? Do people still create content and it is included in the game? Does it give you any interesting reward as a player to run player's dungeons? Any official dev new regarding the foundry?

BTW, why can't I post in the forums a new thread? I can just answert others posts.

I haven't ever used the foundry, but I did notice that the button is no longer greyed out. I haven't clicked on it because I figured I would be promoted to download things. It may be active again, I believe I heard something about that. But zero in game chatter about it

As for the posting, I don't know how old your forum account is, but I think I experienced the same thing when I first made mine. It could just be like a probationary period

Also check your pm. I'm going to send you some advice for making AD make its own AD, lol an on going project for me.

Sorry to sound like a wet blanket.

While this game is hosted on the same server, the platforms for PC/XB1/PS4 are all separated and you cannot play together or move your existing account to another platform. When they introduced XB1 to the game PC lagging increased greatly and has never been confirmed as the direct cause of this or not. PC lagging is still a major issue. I imagine there will be more issues when they open the PS4 version of the game.

The foundry is back up and running after some months downtime. It is not a prioritized part of the game this year. I believe some of the good authors are still around. I am not one of the good ones, but I got to rerelease my quest last week and played it with the wife. It is surprisingly still working, even tho some of the interactions seemed broken.

I just wanted to report that I rarely experience lag if any kind, unless it's on my end. The sever has unexpectedly had issues a few times, but it wasn't bad enough for me to think about it long after
