Negation for prot. paladin after dr cap?

So from what i have read negation armor enchantment is useless if you manage to cap the 80%DR without it right?

Just sold mine and got myself fireburst as it looks cooler on my gear and i had it enough of being a glowing blue orb so the question comes a little too late for me but wanted to clarify that.


Edit: yes i know that staying with negation and changing some items from defense to recovery could yeld better results but i am considering further content where bosses debuff DR and i can negate that with slapping (no pun intended) negation in my armor slot :)
Also new enchant looks cool (atleast for the next few weeks) :)

    errrr... Can you explain why negation would be useless, please ?
    I must have missed the thread talking about it :/

    Sorry i should have clarified, PVE-wise

    I was under the impression in pve the damage ressistance is capped at 80% and that negation adds to that damage ressistance and is not a separate layer. so 10stacks up result 30%DR but having already 80% from other sources they result +0.


    edit: just type 80% in search lots of posts about DR (most recent pala related is just over yours in "orcus as op")

    Yes its true that in PVE Damage reduction is capped at 80%

    The reason for me to use Transcend Negation is to get to the 80%,
    My base damage reduction is 60% + and also the 10% recovery comes handy too

    I'm working on dropping my Damage reduction further till 50+ % so i can change some defense stats gears to life steal /deflect.

    Thanks for the confirmation, yes i agree that would be the more pve optimal route to get recovery and/or power, but the fireburst gives me arround 3% dmg increase too which is nice for soloing heroics and solo grind.
    Also- looks cool.

    Keep in mind that some mobs have Armor Penetration and DR reducing effects. I believe Lostmauth has something like 35% ArP last time @thefabricant checked it, so more DR comes in handy.

    will do, being part of a nice guild since yesterday and they also have the def. boon and with it (and the crab mount) i think i go way over the 80% so should be fine.

    I will be sure not to go too low on DR,
    I personally prefer a more balanced character build instead of stacking just DR... I think with that and right rotation of encounters should be able to even out the odds out there..

    I cant agree more about the flameburst enchantment looks and feel.
    its good change of pace i will do so too if i were to max out DR,
    My only dislike is the cooldown is too long, I would go for Frost burn later on when my toon reaches more higher ilvl.

    Gratz being in the right guild and maxing the right crowd makes lots of different these days .
    I too was waiting my guild to upgrade stables so i can get more def and ArmP.

    Yes i agree on the cooldown but was unhappy how often frost was procing on my gf's character, and it also was not fitting to my thieving.
